Ok had a look around but didnt find any. I believe last year the shrooms appeared end of May... but again its based on temp... so a few days of 20+ and evenings around 5+ degrees celcius... so i hope to check next weekend again.

None for me either
I got off the beaten path in a few areas and was hard pressed to find any fungi let alone a morel. I too think it may be too cool. A few warm days should help.

Phoned my mom yesterday (she's a pro at picking morels) and asked if she's been out yet. She said it's about a week to early. Have to wait until the poplar leaves start to come out.

No luck here - south of Edmonton
I just went out looking for them today...no luck...but it was my first time, so I may have missed them.
Next weekend I'm heading to St. Paul with the Alberta Mycological Society for a foray. Hopefully we'll find a bunch then...never tasted morels, but VERY ANXIOUS to.

Found Morels!!
Went to my parents place in Saskatchewan and found approx. 18, some large some small, just starting to poke through the leaves. They made an awesome mushroom sauce for the perogys.

I've been out a few times but nothing yet. Checked a few of my honey holes out and they were fertalized nicely by the deer and elk. Fresh snow last night and today might set things back a week or so. Found a few sheds and bear skull well looking though. Check out the date on the pic and thats when shrooming should be getting good in North Western Alberta.

dandelions = morels
For years I always said that morels will plenish only when the dandelions plenish. The dandelions havn't kicked-into the growing season around the Edmonton rural area.
Too cool and dry !

The bush is a little dry this year. I managed to find a couple of dozen in an area where I filled up an ice cream bucket in a half hour last year.

Speaking of picking things in the bush to eat........Anyone pick Fiddleheads? We get a bunch every year, have a Fiddlehead feast and blanch and freeze the rest.

Best bet is to Google SAFE MUSHROOMS, or hit the library. Then head to a pasture, down by the river in trees and start flipping leaves

mushrooms
I'm in LacLaBiche area, still have snow on ground. Don"t see morels untill leaves are starting to show which means ground is starting to warm up. I find more along deer trails or in pastures, maybe hoofs cut down to somehow help them come up.

I'm been thinking about the shrooms as well. Around Calgary I have never found morels before May 20, usually the first flush is the first week of June, probably earlier this year. Start looking for them when the Aspen and Poplars are leafing, and the dandilions are first blooming.
For those who are in the Calgary area, I guide the Alberta Mycological society on the Tsuu T'ina Reserve for a two day pick. Everyone is welcome, no charge. I'll post details when the dates are confirmed.
