22-250 / 250 Savage

These are some other really good calibers that are still easy to get a hold of. But in Alberta are not Legal to hunt large game with. I am told BC is "Anything Centerfire"
Sorry Quantum, but I'm going to use your post to raise a point.

You guys really need to get your nomenclature straightened around.

You have a nice list of cartridges here.
There are only 3 caliber a listed.
.20"
.224"
.227"

Gals don't take to recoil. 270 Win., 280 Rem or a 30-06 will kill anything she wants to hunt and do it with manageable recoil.

I agree with you to a point but if the rifle fits the gal she can handle as much as any man out there. My wife shoots a .375 H&H with full power 300gr. loads and doesn't mind it a bit...BUT the rifle fits her well.

Hard to argue with the old classics like 303, 30-06 and 308.

Default My Favorite Cal.

I guess I got to Remember that this is Just an Opinion.
And everybody Got one.

Shot Antelope to Moose size animals with My 7mm.
But I think a 30-06 is a Great Caliber as well.
And for Bush whitetail I like My-30-30?
Am I allowed only one Choice..

Simple answer- there isn't a best all around cartridge or calibre for that matter.
The best is whatever a person likes......

308 or 30-06 will take anything to 300 yards. Easy to shoot and easy to find ammo. Most people that shoot magnums cannot handle the flinch. Ask any old guides.

And many of those same people flinch when they shoot a 30-06.

Why old? Could it be because many of the old timers are against anything new, including cartridges with the "magnum" designation? I have seen just as many poor shots on game animals with 270s, 303s, and 30-06s, as with magnums, because the people couldn't shoot, regardless of the cartridge, or they simply got excited.

An all around caliber/cartridge for anything in ALberta (with the possible exception of Grizz which we can't hunt anyway). I would say anything from 270 Winchester to any of the 300 magnums....possibly excluding the 300RUM and 300-378 wby.

With the 30/06 being the sweetest all rounder of them all..

Well for over 30 years I used a .308 with no problem on anything I hunted, about 6 yrs ago I switched to 30-06 and still no issues. I now have added a .243 to accompany the 06. But truth be said I really miss the .308. Can't explain it , I just do.
