Looking good, Peter! Could you let me know how you do with your 110's on your floats? I've had a lot of missed catches and I'm thinking that I have to move the traps farther back like you have yours. Mine are only 3" from the end of the float.

Yipppeeeeee
I got 25 stick sets out this am and one big funnel trap. I checked tonight and caught 25 rats. I got 9 of them in my big funnel trap I bought off Dave!!!! Couldn't believe my eyes when I pulled it out haha. The only downside I noticed as this is my first fall trapping rats I noticed that there are some real small rats that won't be worth a whole lot. I am thinking a few bucks a piece as they are so small. One thing I did pay attention to is my % of catches with my sticks in the mud. 16 out of 25 traps isn't too bad

You're off to a great start, Nube! Hopefully you can keep that catch rate going. My catch rate has wild fluctuations depending upon the weather, I guess. I've caught a lot of small juveniles as well. The manual says that 70% of your catch in the Fall should be juveniles and it indicates a healthy muskrat population. Only about 10% of my catch has been those tiny juveniles (second litter of the summer?) and the majority were a decent medium size.
I'm glad to hear that the submarine trap has paid itself off 3 times over on the first day.....LOL! I just bought a 100' roll of 16g 1" x 1" galvanized wire mesh and I'll be making a bunch more colony and submarine traps as soon as I get an order. I'll pull an all nighter to get them made if I have to.
Where did you place the submarine trap to catch 9 at a time? Was it in a run, up against a hut or bank den.....? I have a couple that I haven't put out yet. Pictures would be great!

I was going to move half of my float sets tomorrow because they aren't producing much but the winds are supposed to be about 40 kph. I think that I'm going to put out a couple of submarine traps during my check instead. I have no bank dens so I'm going to try to find the entrances to huts. AO member "Pointer" told me about a trick for using a hockey stick to find the hole. Time to put that knowledge to work.

I use my boot, when I find the trail I just follow it up too the hut and poke foot into hole, set my colony and presto rats ,works on shallow water huts for me IMO,Peter

Have you got to put any on boards yet? How prime do they look?
Are you going to Pincher for the SCTA party on Saturday?

Up this way the dark spots on the muskrat's hides are starting to lighten up and getting smaller. It's especially noticeable on the adults. This just started happening in the last 2 days.

I wished that I had a little buddy to help me set and check my traps, Braggadoe, that would be awesome. With the number of traps that you put out you must have some pretty good numbers on your checks. I'd be curious as to how many a guy would catch in one day with that amount.....if you want to share that info.
I've been averaging about 12 rats per day which has helped me get into the swing of things gradually. Between now and freeze up though, I'd like to average about 20 per day. I think that it's time to deploy a bunch of colony traps.
All the best to you southern fellas for a great season!

Pulled my traps yesterday. I had just set a few while I cleaned up my bird outfitting camp for the year. Glad to be done that. Got 3 days in of trapping with about 28 traps. Pulled 25, 22 and 18 in the 3 days. I am off to Azerbaijan in a week till mid Nov on my Tur hunt and will start up then and see if I can get some marten this year and get some coyote snares going. I don't plan on hitting the rats much till spring again and it won't be like last years numbers either.
