Like I said before, in my opinion, that “Brend” skinner had only advantage being one all-around type knife, from field to kitchen. For a field knife, I’d pick a semi skinner without thinking twice.
A pic of the knives that are coming, sns?

Likely won't be completed until sometime in December.
Also likely won't be any better than the Crotts Semi Skinners so many of you have.
My point in all of this is that it is impossible to say what is "best.". What is cool, at least to me, is that knives are affordable enough that a guy can try to find his own personal holy grail knife.
Fishnguy, Walter Brend, pretty widely recognized as one of the top knifemakers of all time, said when we spoke that he was a butcher for 15 years before he started grinding knives, said he never saw a drop point design in a meat market.
Coil, your fav knifemaker, Phil Wilson, also told me when we conversed, that he favored a trailing point design for big game hunting also.
So what to make of that?
Here's what I make of it. There is no one best design, but there are many really, really great ones.
Just my 2 cents.
Again, I will get a Crotts Semi Skinners at some point in the near future.

That is why I said from field to kitchen, that one would be the one
Edit: In other words, if I recall correctly, since you were looking for one knife do all, that Brend skinner was the cat’s meow. You wouldn’t be butchering a moose (or deer, etc) with a semi skinner.
Wonder how Dean is making out with his. We never got to see a pic of the finished product either (unless I missed it).

I don't really care what people say! But this thread has taught me so much about knives it's unreal! As it has been mentioned before there is no perfect knife. "You" may think one knife is great the next person not so much. It's all up to the person and it's use, but it so great to have this conversation with people that are in the same gathering ( Hunting ) to learn what's up with the knife world!
My 2 cents worth! Keep it going!

This is the MKC Triumph I recently picked up, it’s a great field dressing knife. Might be my new favourite.

I guess I wasn’t clear. Dan hasn’t processed a moose, how would he know? Also, he’s selling a customer a knife so what would you expect him to say?
Now to be fair, I haven’t used the brend skinner design so I’m making assumptions. I have however used the semi skinner on the elk and moose and I know how it works.
Yes it’s to bad Dean got the chits and left the forum but I respect him greatly for why he did it.

I have a real old buck skinner. Good knife takes a bit to sharpen good.
I needed a cheap knife in the truck and bought a little buck folder from can tire on sale for $12. I brought it with me to help a buddy skin and cut a moose. I was very impressed very sharp out of the box, and easy to sharpen. Nice in the hand, 3" blade. good skinner. I was so impressed I bought 10 more. Gave a couple to my kids, 2 to buddies, and have the rest spread out in garage, truck, and at the hobby farm.

Thanks! I think it will do what I want it to do! He does such nice work, I don't know why we give into the USA trade! But they have had great reviews from this site. Maybe get lucky enough to try out the Brend Skinner, and my last buy from Clint!

Agreed. Just did another mule doe this aft with the Chisan. The knife guts, unzips and skins like a dream and will still pop hairs after to boot..makers like him need more publicity to compete with the well known makers state side... it can be a bit of a risk buying from an "unkown" and paying good money when you could by from a well reputed maker state side and be sure the quality you will get.... Chisan does absolutely great work and his heat treat and grind is perfect on my knife.... definitely not much of a risk from him I'd wager

Used knives!
My Son took a smaller whitetail buck tonight! So I got to see how the knives worked out. Both knives did great, but the Brend skinner was the leader in skinning and meat cutting. Gave the knife to my son and tried it out skinning.
Wow is all he could say! The Chisan knife kept up! But the Brend skinner sure
showed the rest when the meat cutting started, as the outside temp was not
in our favour! Had to get it cut-up and cooled down. Two great knives! I'm happy!
