My brother worked for Alex and Duncan at McRae Pioneer. He said it was best to keep mouth shut and do job but once he got to know them they treated him like a son. It was a cool little shop with interesting inventory.

About 60 years ago W.W. Arcade sold me a .303 British from the wooden barrel full of them, and I believe it was the much coveted ( at least in my mind) jungle carbine. It never did shoot worth a darn!

Now it gets sketchy I believe the price was $20.

The one I miss the most is WW Arcade when Dot was there. I bought a pile of really nice guns there from about age 14 till I moved out of Edm at 22. I also miss Ben's on 101 street, Wolfe's, and Custom Gun. Frenchies in Clagary was another really neat gun store. I also miss Wholesale Sports, always liked shopping there.

Woolco Department Store on south end of Mayor Magrath Drive South Lethbridge used to sell 303 rifles too in late 60’s early 70’s too.

Default Cottle?

Does anyone recall Cottles Guns in Edmonton, bought a new Mossberg 22 and the old fella running it (Mr Cottle?) seemed to spend a lot of time getting the scope just right...it could literally shoot small branches off a tree from 25 yds.

Don's Guns in the west end was a favorite as well...Don was happy to give you his opinion even if yo didn't ask for it...quite the character.

Early memories of WW Arcade on 97th...didn't they have a fairly "special" urinal in the mens room?

Nothing today compares to these places.

Got my first 22 cooey single shot for 5.00 at a barber shop in Strathmore when I was 13, just asked me if it was going to be ok with my folks.
First center fire was at Simpson and Lee when I was 15. Winchester 94 with 2 boxes of shells, brand new 85.00 for all. Walked back to the bay parkade sky walk with it under my arm and got the keys to the car from my dad so i could put it in the trunk. Calgary beat cop stopped and looked at it and asked me how much did Simpson charge you for that? When I told him he replied he never gave him dials like that. Things were a lot different back then!!!!
Bought lots of guns at Ken Mens Wear and Sporting goods in Bassano, was in there at least once a week on my day off!

It was Bob on calgary trail . Tall skinny guy . He always had to use his pocket calculator before he would say yes on your offer .
I remember he also tried selling 10 ticket for $100 each to shoot a 375 mag at a gun range . Best shooter got to keep the gun . Nice !

Must have been Don on the west side on 156 st !
The one on 109 st just south of 82 ave was .....North star sporting goods
