I'm kind of stuck in the middle.. I do like that this forum is more broad..but I am a fly-fisherman 90% of the time... I will call this one Undetermined for me... This being said though, I could see a "Stream, River & Lake Conditions" Forum being helpful (even during Ice-fishing Season... Ice conditions, springs, etc).

Like someone mentioned having flyfishing on a separate forum would create a "dead zone" during winter months....keep it all together that way all the trouble makers are in one place

People fly fish through the whole year and there is a bunch of guys that tie flies all winter to stock up their boxes for the warmer months.
I think a fly fishing section is a really good idea.

I agree with what you say too npauls flyfisherman also can be active in the winter months...I know I am!
...but why not a camping section? why not an outdoor BBQ section? .....you know what I mean?
I guess the line needs to be drawn somewhere or everything gets diluted in "sections"
More people BBQ and Camp than flyfish

why not you have a archery one a trapping one a guns and ammo so it makes sense to have a fly fishing one besides that for the ones like me that are not really intrested in sorting through the walleye stories........hey i have nothing against them i just think it has its place just like flyfishing

Not sure about a winter dead zone...I am trying to hit up the bow at least once a month for the entire 12 months....so far six for six...and it doesn't really matter what type of rod I use...btw super bowl sunday was awesome for my winter honey hole

If that is the way it is then why does archery have its own category? Same sort of situation as gear fishing and fly fishing. Fly fishing is the archery of the fishing world.

I like the idea of a fly fishing forum
because 95% of the fishing I do in a year is fly.

Sounds good to me, a fly fishing section would be great.

Have not looked at all the responses but I would love a fly forum... 90% of the fishing I do is on the fly & with the amount of threads posted daily I literally have 3 pages to navigate through everyday to see topics that interest or apply to me. Worth a consideration anyways but I can respect the argument on both sides.

can i change my vote on this? i dont spend much time in this section, but i have taken notice of how fast it moves. the hunting section often has posts a day old on the first page....but fishing doesnt often have posts more than 4 hours old on page 1. maybe separating it a bit would be a good thing.

Fishing is fishing IMHO. Keep it al together and don't put one on a pedestal over another. This forum is not elitest nor specialized.

I'm for it. It would be nice to have another site. It's another style in the sport of angling. Like Bows in hunting.

Do you like a book with a more detailed table of contents, or a less detailed one? I like a more detailed one so I can find what I'm looking for faster. Same reason we don't have just one buy and sell forum you have to wade through to find guns. Go with the fly fishing forum. Heck, maybe a dog one too, unless having more forums is a lot of extra work.
I just checked the actual number of people viewing each forum right now:
General 178
Hunting 77
Guns & Ammo 60
Archery 12
Fishing 151
Trapping 10
Buy and Sell 162
You could subdivide the Fishing forum and still have more people interested in both parts than are interested in the Archery or Trapping Forums, which are deemed important enough to stand on their own.

Point taken....I can agree with that analysis....
Archery and Trapping are the "quietest" sections we have here....and they have their own areas.
.....we should have a "FishingMOM Thread Section" and a "BGSH Thread Section" to further declutter the general section though....

Great Idea....
would love to see some people post some of their how to tie certain flies as well... So many things that would be great and not have to dig through all the bass threads to find it....

Absolutely yes please!!!!
And as for the fly fishermen being on a "pedestal" I take offence to that. I spin cast, bait fish etc like everyone else. I prefer to fly fish and spend most of my time doing that. This may cause controversy but theres more to fly fishing than there is to regular spin casting.......everything from tying flies to reading waters, casting, etc etc I seriously think a fly forum would be a success.

You could just get rid of the trapping section and replace it with fly fishing.
joking, joking. Unlikely. The boss is a trapper now.
