Hey Nube....no I didn't sell...I managed to get some boxes out on the last 2 sets of days off.... I have 5 marten, 4 Fisher, 8 weasel and a Handful of squirrels....I'm really enjoying it when I get out, so I'm not concerned about selling, and it's only half hr from home!!!

Not sure but I figure around 30. I only had 32 sets and some of those were exploring areas that I figured didn't have marten in them but wanted to see. I also only had 22 sets out for the first couple checks as well. I figure I did o.k for a first year. Next year will be running 60-80 sets I think. I plan on some double boxes at some spots as well. I didn't catch as many as I had hoped for but I only got out half of what I wanted too as well. Not sure if I did that great but I know I learned a ton and had some fun. I know next year I can do way better as well.

It was a male. It doesn't look that big in the one picture on the freezer but I weighed it and if I remember right it was just over 12 pounds. Not sure if that is average or not but to me it seemed like a decent size. Still not sure whether to get it tanned or not. I just got it tagged by fish and wildlife yesterday along with my otter and cats.

You are having a good season there Nube, 12lbs is a decent size female fisher.
My largest male was 15lbs, fills a 120 right up.
I find it interesting your marten are lighter in color then the marten we
catch up here. Most a quite dark, and some are dark brown with white feet.

Seems like my marten are scarce this year! Only have 2 so far! Usually end up with 12-20 , but the line seems really slow this season! Just missed on a wolf in a 750 last check! Gonna move a bunch of boxes around next time out!
On a brighter note, I will be bringing my 3 y/o son out with me on friday

Thanks Jim, I hope I am doing well for a first year. Not sure what to compare it to. I honestly thought I would do better on marten but things were slow going and I got a late start. Also didn't get half the sets out as I wanted. Overall I think I am happy.
I do seem to have a lot of lighter colors on my marten which is too bad. They are not worth as much I don't think.
The good thing is it seems like guys are having a hard time catching them this year and I feel I did pretty good with the number of sets I had. Hopefully that means I got a good number of them around. I am looking forward tot he future years for sure.
Thanks for the support guys it has been a blast

This thread is amazing. I'm not sure how snares would work way down here in Georgia but I definitely am interested.

Thanks for the new line trapper up dates Nube. This has been good reading material keep up the good work I'm sure their is a lot of people on here at are following your first winter on the line.
Nice to see you caught an otter in your first year. That is one critter that I have never caught.
Still going to get an otter coat one day.
Thanks TEH

I like the second photo of the snared coyote where there is no catch circle. I've only had one like that. The coyote walked up the trail and it looked like when the snare tightened, he just fell over sideways. No catch circle or any other disturbance to the area. It looked like it just keeled over and died and the extension was straightened right out like what's in that picture.
