We've had a great grouse year. I've gotten my limit all but two of the times I've been out both in Ft. Assiniboine and Rimby. We were going to be heading out to the family cabin at Garner Lake for Thanksgiving and I've never seen any grouse up there in all the years we've had the cabin.
My wife had negotiated a "no hunting" weekend since I haven't been home for a weekend since the beginning of September. Midway through the week leading up to Thanksgiving I got wondering if there are grouse up at Garner Lake because the wife always likes to go for walks...I figured I'd just steer those walks into areas where shooting is legal and its a win-win.
Friday afternoon I'm on my way home from work and I get a text from my dad. My dad is not the outdoorsy type. He heard a loud bang on the window and went outside and there was a big bird who had just committed suicide and he was wondering what on earth it was...
I guess there are ruffies at Garner Lake... Got my limit there too!

we live grande cache.we have been getting ruffies and sprucies.today we tried for the illusive blue grouse.my buddy got one last weekend.so me and the wife decided to try today.at first light we walked up the grande mountain road a couple kms.then walked some old exploration roads.looked like a good area.we flushed a few sprucies.then I got a shot at a ruffy. I must of just grazed it.it jumped around on the road.as I ran up to it,it flew away.coulnt find it.no feathers on the road.after lunch we took the quad to the top of grande mountain looked around the alpine area but saw no blues.we worked our was down trying side roads and walking.ended up with a few sprucies.good for soup.a fun warm day.

My very first ruffy and very first hunting experience. It took me 3 trips to finally get the bird with my .22 After the first one it became easier.
Working in between Whitecourt and Fox Creek, a lot of ruffies in the area.

Hello all,
I have done a ton of walking in 406 (sibbald, McLean etc.) looking for a doe white tail and I have only seen a few grouse. I would love to give the dog a chance to flush a few birds before the end of the season. Can anyone give me a wmu or general area to go somewhere near Calgary.
By the way I am still looking for my doe. I was on stand last night and a dandy 4x4 walked out about 30m from me. He was still looking for a girlfriend.

10 day elk hunt- no elk but lots of grouse, including my first ever spruce grouse, and first ruffed grouse with my bow. Killed em with 4 different weapons: pellet gun, 410, 12g, bow. 5 bird limit on 2 days. Best bird hunting I've ever seen.

This Ruffed Grouse met his end this past weekend. If I had my 22 instead of my rifle on me I could have shot another half dozen while pushing bush.

Where are you guys seeing them now that there is a couple inches of snow (up in trees, on the ground walking in the snow, underneath trees, etc)? I always find it tough to locate them in my spots this time of year
