Exactly. Trading him for a 2-4th rounder is fine, as the real benefit is clearing the deck for Benson to come up.

I think JJ needs to go he has had many opportunities and has not proved to be consistent. But I do think you need to play Benson in a top 6 role otherwise he does not get no benefit as he will get limited ice time. Not a good way to bring a new guy in. Oilers have done that way to often and it does not work. Need a spot to open up for him to play. If he can’t play big minutes allow him to continue to develop. An opportunity will open up.

So, how much longer before Coach Therien is fired?

So..... if VEGAS is to lose tomorrow, either Edmonton or Calgary jumps into 1st.

Bensons skating isn't 100% NHL endorsed yet. Might get a cup of coffee this year but he needs more AHL time I think.
The guy I'd really like to see start putting it together is Mcleod. Great size and speed. Could be what Edmonton needs in the 3-4C position. Bonus points to him for spelling his last name properly.

Yep and if Calgary won in overtime the they would be 1-2 in the pacific. But the Oil will win so 1-4 it’s is. Tight division the pacific it is.

I honestly think he’d clear at this point, and I’d like to see if he could rebuild himself in the AHL, but there is a chance he gets claimed at his cap hit. I agree though, if his time is up, the better option is probably trying to get a 4th or 5th for him and clear the path. I definitely think there’s a FAR better chance he clears than there is of getting a 2nd or even a 3rd rounder for him.
I’ve heard the only real knock on Benson is skating, but eventually you just have to see if the kid can play or not. I’m not sure more time in the AHL is the solution to making him an NHL skater.

Not that I liked the kid or anything, but skating is the only knock the scouts had on Thachuk. I think Benson needs a look see...

Agree, and im his biggest critic.
Now I'm just slightly less worried when I see him start.
Should be a good one Saturday night.

I’d love to see one of him on his knees huddling on the ice with his hands protecting his head.

Flames were up a goal by then, no way Ward was going to let that happen. Take his # son, we play them on the 29th.
