[QUOTE=Jawjacker;3685626]I went out to Lac St Anne today to check out the ice depth and was surprised to see a few vehicles on the ice. The ice is approx 12 inches . I walked up to a few older guys laughing and having a great ol time . They were hammering the Whites. I watched them bring up 5 while talking to them for 10 min span. I asked what they were using? The one man reached into his bag and handed me these worms. Said his son makes them for him. I went to hand them back, he pushed my hand back towards me and said Happy holidays . God I love fisherman. Were a special type
J-j once again, Tks for sharing, those are interesting looking dark colored patterns & worth future consideration.

Unfortunately no . I was more on a fact and find mission. But what I did catch was the man that gave me the hooks is a local born and raised there. He was telling me stories that his Great Grandfather was one of the contributing farmers that helped create Rock Island at Alberta Beach ,by clearing rocks off his property and dumping them on the ice. Year after year many farmers in the area participated creating an excellent place to fish around .

Which brass are those? I like the look of the crow style beads. I'll likely pickup a bunch of the glass ones.
My son and spent quite some time making up a bunch today.
For metallic wire I am finding the 24ga to be much easier to manipulate.

Hi Rem, they are bronze glass beads with a brass liner I believe. They should have a good reflective trait to them. Many natural "bugs" have a translucent look and I hope this matches that somewhat.
I hope to try a few of them out later this week, Ill report any results.

Today was a different kinda day, Barbie the Red/Pink strip W/W produced 4/5 and the 5th went to the Dark Brown & bead. Still blank for the solid Hot Pink pattern. That Big White (18-20") came back for a visit more than once today, it bumped Barbie only once, just no interest in any of my presentations.
Coyotezh ... the Whites in Sylvan are all about the same size 14-16", not as big as Gull or Pigeon.
This w/w worked today.

The other day we started in 3 FOW, but it got a bit crowded when 2 other groups showed up so we went out progressively until we found a spot with sand/weed & rocks over 7 FOW. There was lots of Whites hanging around, one spent a great deal of time vacuuming up the bottom right under me but wouldn't take a w/w, I believe it was an existing spawning bed that kept them in the area & they were still there today.
This is what to look for ...
Cheers

Wireworm Inventor
I remember reading an article about the wireworm and its inventor many years ago - late 70s 0r early 80s. As I recall ( I could be wrong...memory isn't that great ) anyway, the fellow who the article was written about and who was credited with the wire worms invention was a young lad. I believe he was from the Red Deer area - does anyone remember his name? PM me or post it please!

Went out to Gull today, it was a very disappointing day, seen lots of Whites, only caught 2 both on Candy Cane Yellow/Orange and Matt from R-Mtn Hse got one Pike on the same W/W pattern. Visibility was 6 feet or less, I believe that’s worse than last year.
Lippy sorry I'm not aware of the fella, perhaps others here can advise accordingly.
A few pics ….
D.
Walked out to our spot & was rewarded with a BTY sunrise.
This was the only pattern that worked today.
They’re a bit bigger than Sylvan’s at just over 17”.
Gave them to Matt, he said they would feed his family tonight, that made me smile!

Date night with gf tonight had a fishing element to it. Excited for sylvan/gull tomorrow.
Will be interesting to see how this performs on lac st anne Sunday. They seem to bite the darker patterns. Forest green and black.

Ended the day by paying it forward, grabbed the hooks that worked and gave them and my holes to the fella who walked up and asked for advice. Hope he and his buddy catches.

Bassett .... Well done, in the spirit of giving, people sure do appreciate the kind gesture.
Interesting color choices the G-friend used to make those w/w's, what's special is she caught her first/second White on her own creation. I imagine she will be joining you again and then the competition begins.
Tks for contributing & sharing the pic's.
Cheers
David

J-j … like the Z-z Glow Bead addition to your w/w creation, they sure have improved my success and I’m sure you’ll find the same. As well, consider making a few with the Glow Bead at the hook end, the other day on Gull, the Whites were hitting my “line” tied to Red w/w & glow bead and not taking the hook.
Bassett … some BTY replacements, looks like you’re having a successful start to the season.
Tks fellas for your pic’s & contribution on this thread, very helpful & inspiring for others who may be just getting into making W/W’s!
Cheers
D.

I’ve been fighting a cold, but decided to go back out to Gull. Seen 7 whites, got two to commit, I would consider the others as very neutral, they came in for a look at my presentations but swam by, just not real interested. Changed presentations a few times, nothing else worked. After filleting them, I checked the stomach contents, both empty. Another strange slow day on Gull.
J-j ... I made a few more w/w's last night, the Whites wouldn't look at the Brass or Candy Cane pattern with a Glow Bead, when I put these on, which are a bit smaller in size with a glass bead, they started to show more of an interest and then inhaled them.
A few pic's
D.
These worked today.
Two nice one’s.
Just under 19” ... the sun was setting that it's natural coloring not Photoshop.
Snow’s coming … would you drive over this ?

Nice lookin worms, just a bit of advice I figured out on the weekend. Your 2 that are top left will be pretty hard to get a decent hook set. Big bead for being so close to the hook and I was burned a few times this past outing because I did the same thing.
