Fishing up north in Grand Rapids Manitoba in the 70's hauling the stringer of 4 walleye a long ways up the dam wall for my dad so we could leave for home and I nearly got pulled in by a pelican. I fought him for a bit and he WON. Flew away with our days catch and then dropped it in the river.
Long, long quiet ride back to Wpg.
So technically not a weird catch-more like a weird release.

Anyways, when my family and I went on vacation to Florida my father and I went charter fishing. My Dad casted a jig and the line wrapped around a seagull. It was a heck of a battle for my Dad and I to free the hostile seagull. The seagull was pecking at our hands and squawking like mad. Boy weren't those pecks alarming. Afterwards, we laughed our heads off for quite a while. Once when my brother and Sister were fishing up in Skagway Alaska there was this little man made pond that was part of a creek full of salmon. Well anyways they caught a few salmon, though that wasn't the only thing they caught, they caught many salmon skulls as well. Yuk! There was another bizarrely funny incident when my father and I were fishing this back bush lake in BC. As we were slowly putting along in our boat, a micro sized trout jumped out of the water and hit my Dad in the head, then it landed right squarely into the boat. My father looked at me all accusingly and asked me what I just hit him with. I told him that a fish just jumped out of the water and hit him in the head. At first he thought I was just teasing him, and then he saw the fish flopping in the bottom of the boat. Shortly after the fish was released, we both had a good laughing fit.
Other notable qualifiers would be a fishing plug and tangled in a rats nest of line at long lake near Boyle, an old rusty 3' by 2' metal barrel at Isle Lake full of mud and another mud filled barrel the same size at a lake in Manitoba

I caught a huge branch this summer, with line wrapped all around it. After bringing in the branch, the line was still in the water so i pulled it in. 3-4lb sucker on the other end. I also caught a 5lb brooky one time by hooking onto the line that was wrapped around the fish. No hook or anything, just tightly wrapped line around the fish. I brought him in, untangled him and let him go.

On the Red River at Lockport, Manitoba I snagged some 30 lb test line. Reeled it in and there seemed to be a dead weight on it. I then pulled up a 20 lb Carp. Thing was exhausted....looked like a giant goldfish.

I've caught a few rocks, a Dragonfly, two fishing rods, a leatherman wave, and I believe I was caught by a Bald Eagle. That was interesting, I was fishing pike using a topwater imitation " baby loon", Eagle swooped down and grabed it. He didn't have it long, and either released it or I pulled it free, not really sure.

I caught a womans purse one time at the Lac St Anne narrows while jigging for walleye. It had a cell phone, wallet, small bag of weed, and 40 bucks in it! I tracked the woman down and gave it all back.

Canada Goose while casting

My favourite of all time is the Man I caught with a fishing net.
We were fishing off a peir with a 20 foot drop down to the water. We were after Musky and Walleye.
We were using a large (salmon size) net with an extended handle. It was 1/2 inch steel pipe. This allowed us to get in the monsters.
Well I went to net a fish and this guy decided to try and take the net from me and so I made a quick move. He got the handle of the net upside his head and was knocked out. After that night he learned to leave the net alone!

I didn't actually catch this, but I did see it in the water from above. I went down to net it so I could have a closer look. It barely moved when I got close, nor did it put up much of a fight when I scooped it up... an obligatory shake was all it really did.
Is it me, or is this a plecostamus?
It was roughly a foot and a half long.
Bow river, just this summer.
