Call me crazy but I think I can hear ice being made at Pigeon, right now, from downtown Edmonton
I thought the -29C was a good ice day yesterday. This morning, -39C at Pigeon...
And, no real end in sight yet for this long cold snap. I do not believe ice conditions will be much of a worry after this.

Finally some good ice getting manufactured!Hopefully now I dont have to worry about driving the diesel out there. Now if only the ice heave at Mulhurst would disappear.Just might bring a chainsaw and a few recruits to cut it down.Without the usual heave in the middle the lake, ice seems to be pushing up on shore alot more.Stay warm and good luck this weekend to all that head out.

Eagle has 24 in of good ice with 3 in of white ice on top. People have been driving across to the east side. Looks like a lot of people by the looks of the tracks.
I suspect it’s the notion the fish aren’t bitting here, maybe they all swam over to that side of the lake.
The water is chalk full of shrimp and plankton / food and I’m wondering if the pike and eyes don’t have to swim around trying to find baitfish. Baitfish might be in good abundance and in big enough schools that the predators just save all their energy, then hit the school for a full meal deal.
Just a layman’s guess.

Pigeon Lake - off the provincial park has 27” of ice. Access is really good, only a few inches of hard packed snow. Saw a few like on the camera and marked a few fish with the flasher but otherwise it’s pretty slow.

Was fishing the Pine Lake derby on Sunday and can tell you we needed every inch of the auger flyte. Went right to the power head before we hit water....this was just south of Scotty's. So ice is good 'n' thick right now...

Elinor lake
15” on elinor lake last weekend, broke trail towards the north end with a half ton.
One small but serious soft spot 100’ from shore north of the main island along the steep hill face. Fishing was slow.

Was at seibert recently and there was lots of ice and lots of snow. No issues of heaves or flood water. Vehicle would be working hard in the amount of snow that was up there.

Umm, does Siebert have a separate weather system? Admittedly, I have not fished it this year but have fished lakes in the area and further North than Siebert. 6-8 inches max of snow. Except on the Eastern side due to the West wind. Snow has really been non-existent in Central and North-Central this year.

Well, shut my mouth. I think the recent know is a direct cause of me questioning Siebert
Well it is not supposed to get up that far, the rest of Central and South Central will have an "interesting" time this weekend. sigh....

Could anyone give me some insight into how long it takes for about 2 feet of ice to melt with the temperatures we have been getting? I want to get out again before it completely disappears. Planning to head up to kananaskis but worried that the ice will be too weak. Thanks

I was at spray lakes yesterday and it will be around for a while for sure depending in on temps. I didnt measure the ice but over 2 ft for sure. No slush at this point but will surely be different soon.

The ice on most of the Kananaskis area lakes doesn't come off until May, so you're good for a few more weeks at least for sure. Worst thing might be water / slush on top.

Pigeon Ice
Solid 3 feet of ice. Easy drive for most 4*4. Should be smooth travel everywhere after a couple more days of this heat.

Went out this afternoon to lac la biche lake. One spot had 26-28 inches of good clear ice 4 or so of white. Next spot almost bottomed out with the auger. Lots of slush and surface water. Caught my 2 walleye tags. 68 and 62 cm and a 80cm pike
