Well we got two losers a couple hundred miles apart. Same sad sack song and it will be for a long time. When either franchise gets their new superman so do the other teams .
Have ONE Alberta team , one good one and get Lord Stanley back where he belongs. Make hockey exciting again.

Definately a lot of feedback on the trade though. Some people irate. Never saw so many comments on Twitter, blogs, etc. Figure Gretzky just got traded or something. General feeling is that Holland was in a position to take advantage and didn't. Most people in the know say he can still play. We needed a replacement for Klefbom for a while, who looks like he won't play this year at all, making it two years not on the ice. We'll see how it turns out.

Are the Oilers better now than before the trade? Yes. I wouldn't say a bunch better but they are better with Keith in the line up.
The big question is was the price tag too high. I think yes. I get what Holland said about not squeezing too hard as it will get around and make it hard to deal with other GM's. I am not too worried about Jones not being on the club as he wasn't a regular anyway. I am just worried about the over 5.5mil against the cap for 2yrs.
It's a start now find someone to play on McDavid's wing and a better goalie combination then we are talking. If we start with Kosk and Smith it won't be the end of the world but we do need to get better in goal.

My thoughts on this are how much do you pay for the experience Keith has not only on the world level but in the NHL playoffs. The Oilers are lacking that leadership and experience. The team was dismal in their playoff appearance against the jets. I can't help but wonder if they could have gotten deeper with a guy like Keith in the line up. Experience costs money!

I still think getting quality goaltending is more of a priority. If that's the case why hasn't Chicago done better with Keith's experience, not to mention several others on that team who have Stanley Cup experience.

How many times have teams instantly regretted signing a long term contract or in 5 years wish to unload it.
In a perfect world I would rather see ticket prices lower and more affordable than paying a hockey player $9 million a year.
Better yet. How about make every single player get paid $500,000.
Then each player has goals and objectives based upon stats. Run some fairly simple algorithms including team performs metrics.
If you perform and make strong contributions you make more money at the end of the year from the incentive pool.
If you are McDavid… you can hit metrics to make $10MM then great. If you are a fourth liner and you kick ass you make a career high salary.
If you are a superstar doing little…it gets reflected in your pay.
Oh well.
Edmonton is stuck with him unless they can trade him now to Seattle for more draft picks.

I dont fault them for making the money. They make what they can, I think we all would.
Nurse is only 26 so this contract will take him to 34-35. At least he is not 30, with 9 yrs to go.
And he does still seem to be improving.
