Mother of all shoots 2010 - Newb what to expect?
Who's done this shoot in the past?
This is my first shoot.... ever. 3d or otherwise.
I read the thread on 3d shoots, however, I'm looking for any info pertaining to this one, if different or unique.
... I know I'm not going to win anything, I just dont want to go in and make cardinal mistakes that can get me tossed or looked at funny if avoidable.
I'm shooting in Men's Release.
Thanks.

This will be my first time shooting "TMOAS" to. I saw it in action last year and it looked like fun and I am positive it will be! I have shot some 3D shoots before so the only thing missing will be the abundance of trees, grass shrubs etc. but don't kid yourself there will be some "fodder" to help throw your arrow off! You know the rules are pretty simple and as long as you pay attention to the range officials you will be okay. I shoot BHR as well and am just going to have fun to. I am shooting with my brother and 8 year old nephew. Should be a hoot. Be sure to bring some arrow lube, as the arrows are tough to pull out of those targets without it. If you are not familiar with the targets and their scoring zones you may want to pick up one of those small plastic charts that most retailers sell and or bring a set of binos to help with identifying zones. Have fun!

Thanks. I am actually going to be re-classed as Open, as I have a movable pin sight.
Not there to take the competition too seriously in either field, so I'm not too concerned (and I dont feel like dropping another $100-200 on a sight at the moment).
I've heard a few things on the arrow lube, so I'll be getting me a tube of that and an arrow puller. Borrowing some Binocular's from a friend. Picking up an animal flip chart clip-thing too.
It looks very fun.

If you can, shoot the practice round the night before the real shoot starts. You will be able to get a feel for where the scoring rings are.. I shot there last year and it was a blast!

11.9 Cameras and Rangefinders
11.9.1 Camera or range-finding devices are not allowed on any of the shooting ranges regardless of use. Handheld binoculars of less than 9X maximum power are allowed. All binoculars must bear the manufacturer‟s original markings showing their maximum power.
11.9.2 In consideration of time, no shooter may glass the target from the shooting stake after taking his or her shot. Shooters may glass the target prior to shooting, but are reminded of the time restriction for their shot. A shooter found in violation of this rule may have five points deducted from his or her score.
11.10 Yardage Discussion
11.10.1 There is to be no discussion of yardages until a target has been scored. Discussion is restricted to shooters that have already shot said target
This is right out of the rule book

Everyone can quit worrying about the stupid max power bino rule. MOAS isn't a sanctioned shoot for the 3DAA this year and the IBO has removed the power restriction.

You are correct Russ this is not a sanctioned shoot and we do allow 10x bino's we do not allow any range finders inside the building this is the only rule we will enforce on optics. Its going to be a blast 400+ registered shooters.
NO WALK IN REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

So at nationals it doesn't matter what power of bino's you have?

Nationals are governed by the FCA, so you need to check their 3D rules.
Check out http://fca.ca/images/stories/FCA/Rul...ary2010%29.pdf
refer to 11.9.1
So you still need to own 2 pair of bino's, I'm in the market for new binos myself but I've decided that I'll either buy 10 or 12x since the IBO has dropped the rule and therefore it's likely the FCA will eventually follow.

I'm pretty sure you're right about that, and I'm pretty sure I don't care. I'll dig out my old 8x and make do. I'm not going to buy 2 pr of bino's so I can be "legal" for a silly 3D shoot. I have far better places to spend my money.

Yeah, what would be the point of having 2 pairs of Bino's? This will be my first time going to nationals.

Just so everyone understands, I hunt with 10x binos - have for over 8 years and I've also carried a set of 8x bino's for 3D. See 2 pair. I'm now in the position where I have to replace the 8x's and I'm really not in the mood to buy another pr of bino's just to satisfy a rule that is likely to be changed within the next 12 months.
You don't need 2 pr of bino's, but you had better understand @ Indoor Nationals they will be checking your gear for compliance at the registration and that includes bino power. I hope that clears up what I was trying to say.

Yup thanx russ. You can just do what everyone else does. Buy your 10 or 12x's for hunting and buy your 8x's for the shoot, then return them after the weekend is done!!! I just know a couple of guys that say they do that...lol.
