Shriners band denied....
Did any of you read that the Shriners band was denied entry to the Canmore parade? Apparently they didn't do the enrollment process ahead of time, but parade officials said that wouldn't have mattered anyway.....they would not have been allowed in the parade anyway, because their band is culturally inappropriate. Canmore doesn't like the fact that they wear costumes and call themselves the Shriners Oriental Band.
There is a long list of parades the Shriners participated in and they will be in the Calgary Stampede parade. Everything they do is geared helping people and some woke in Canmore refuses them entry in a parade??
WTH is wrong with people?

This is getting beyond stupid. Look up the Shriner's name, that is enough to offend some people no doubt, a demand for a name change is coming up will be next.

They are usually the worst entry in the parade in my opinion, 5 or 6 rather mundane trucks pulling trailers with a dozen of those little annoying cars, but what a ridiculous entry to deny.

Because they perform “in Middle Eastern garb” to entertain the children along the parade route and to raise awareness for the Shriners’ commitment to helping children with medical concerns.

Some people have absolutely no idea just what the term " offensove" really means, those people should look in a mirror to see what is truly offensive .
No matter, whatever and whoever thinks they are going to change the Shriners had better think again.......

Yet our prime minister can dress up like a native chief or wear black face god knows how many times or dress like a fairy tale princess. oh, sorry anyone can dress like that now days my mistake.

Check out the Shriners childrens hospital. Privately funded by the Shriners. There is only one of their hospitals in Canada but if you have a child that has been there you know of the good work they do.

You can have a parade with men wearing leather g-strings and leather collars, shooting waterguns from their crotch area....and that's ok and encouraged....
But a shriner group, who built a dozen or more childrens hospitals, has an oriental named band and it's frowned upon......

My cousin (deceased) was extremely handicapped, in a wheelchair her whole life you name it. The Shriners paid for her hospital trips, paid the hotel rooms for my aunt and uncle to be there. Bought special wheel chairs etc. they gave thousands and thousands of dollars to a girl who wasn’t their own.

They are definitely creepy. White old guys playing Mr. Dressup and wearing turbans and Arabic hats is kinda strange .... NO?
Don't get me wrong, They do some good work .....and have changed many lives for children all over the world and raised money ......... but ........ still kinda midget clown creepy if you ask me.
When I was a kid I was scared of them ..... come to think of it, I still am.
Having said that, let the good outweigh the bad .... may the midget cars and funny hats ride the parade!!!
