Exactly what tyree said. My 48 +incher is gonna be hanning from my wall. lol. Cant count how many 40+inchers i'v let go. When that one true trophy comes around its gonna be once or twice in a lifetime.

And some really nice fish david. People critisized us for keeping the 43# and 48# rainbows, theres always gotta be some of those jealous type. Maybe before ice off ill hit up fickle and try my luck.

Cool

I am humbled by the fact that two WR holders are having a banter on the same thread. thank you Spec 55 and FG. in my time I have just missed line class records for coho 28#6 oz on ten pound test. and a 32#3 oz steelhead on twelve. I have spent a long time trying for the rainbow record prior to FG's titan being entered. well done and congrats to you both. my question for the nay sayers, would you release a fish you knew was a world record. for my two cents after I turned 30 that's part of my inspiration to fish, get me in the record book. as one of the luckiest / best anglers in the world for a chosen species. well done lads, keep those records in the great white north.

Exactly Shawn, if the complainers had any clue how many pike over 40" we have sent back down the hole they would shut their yaps. I still laugh everytime I see comments from people about keeping the big fat triploids.

David - thanks for keeping this thread on track, you have handled the idiots better than most on this forum, and I commend your positivity in the sea of haters. Congrats and I hope we get a chance to head out again in the future.

Thanks for sharing the pics David. That pike has got to be one of the fattest pike I have seen! Congrats!

Hey David..I have a thoery that I hope to finally confirm this summer but I believe in one of the stockings of MALIGNE IN THE EARLY 30'S..some of the Brookies were of the Nipigon strain..

I have no doubt that the we will see some 15 pound Brookies in the 10 years now that triploids are being stocked.

And, based on the size of the fish one can assume it has been breeding for a number of years. As such, its DNA has already been passed on to its progeny, which are now passing it on to their progeny. Even though those will not likely yet be as big (unless some other monster genes were passed on) as this one, they will have potential.

Nothing has been lost.

the chance of a 30 pound fish breeding with another 30 pound fish to produce another in that class is imesurably low. Dominant fish do not migrate or spawn near eachother.

keeping a monster of this size severly limits another anglers chances to share the same experience. my kids your kids and their kids.

I have cought a 48 inch pike on a single barbless hook. I realeased it unharmed.

I hope one day you catch it or one like it and get the same pump i did. I only wish that you would take a length and girth measurment (and weight if you have time to safely) and take those numbers to the taxidermist. They will provide the same or better longer lasting mount than if you brought a fish in. it costs $1000 either way but if you release you offer another angler the same chance I gave you.

Have you been to Keho during spawn? And I've watched duos of huge pike travelling together,,, 2010 was a stunning year for seeing big gals cruising. But you may be right,, if you can't produce a trophy by August, drop me a line, I'll pm you some spots to try,, seriously, what's your flavour?

Nice pics David

"breeding" lol, and your right, odds of two huge pike "breeding" are slim, because how often do males get to epic sizes?

I will likely never get another walleye like that one....

"I(m)mesurably low" - in fact so low that you could say no chance at all that two female fish could successfully spawn with each other, great point!

David - I know you put in serious time to finally land that brook trout, how many other large brook trout did you hook while on that quest? Do you think there is still brook trout of that size in the lake? Didn't you hook a really large male in roughly the same location that you lost at the boat? Were you able to use motorized boats at the time you caught that fish? I never spent much time fishing that lake as the areas I would like to fish are a REALLY long electric motor ride.

So because you are close to the end of your life cycle you too are expendable like a huge bread out pike???

I dont think so. I wish you no harm man and hope you play out ur full schedule. I also hope the same for the fish you catch in the mean time.

Mariko's Rod, forcing your view and personal ethics on others is not welcome here. What you wish to believe is purely your right as it is with everyone here on AO. Respect that and move on. Everything described here is well within the rules and regulations of Alberta fishery, if you really feel the need, take the fight up there. As you are well aware, all actions have consequences, good and bad, but we all have choice , you decide

David, big congratulations, very cool!!
Thank you to all of those who have chosen to keep this thread on track, well done!

I am currently proposing slot limits on my home lake SRD knows me by first name. Im not forcing anything on anybody. People have a right to kill huge fish if they want and I have a right to try and stop it. your kids and grand kids will thank me. This is my last post on this thread.
