Default Old cabin

rsz_img_2934.jpg

An old cabin on our line from the trapper in the late 60's. He still used dog sled to get around, had 3 cabins like this spead out on the line, always had shelter. Must have been long winter nights, has no windows. Found some of his winter camps when he had camped on the trail, strechers and wooden frame. The guy never had a driver's licence, he was out there from fall till spring when he could hitch a ride back to town. I have alot of respect for the man, as I walk where he has walked.

i hear you jim, i have huge respect for the trapper the put so much work into the line. i find all kinds of usefull stuff, from axes, shovels, picks, chainsaw files, journals, books, maps, playboy mags from the 70's etc, etc.

the most usefull thing i found was, a needle and thread!. i had my jacket's zipper go and was able to find a needle and thread(i over looked the need!!) put some buttons on. carry on.

Thanks. I was lucky to find it. It was listed on kijiji for almost 4 hours before I picked it up. Been looking for one for a few years. Have to act fast or they're gone

I don't know about delux but it sure looks perfect for a trapping family. Light and bright log interior. Hard surface floor easy to clean up. Enough bunks for the crew. Sweet setup. Good luck and may you and yours make many happy memories out there.

Hopefully headed out there in the next few weeks and should have some more pics to post. I'd llove to see what kind of skinning sheds people have set up. Was going to try and build one this summer so I can keep the cabin a little cleaner but ran out of time. Hopefully next year

I'm thinking 8 wide by 10 long with a 4 foot overhang on the porch, but I might go to 10 wide. I'm trying to find a place to build some trusses for me but they're hard to find. And expensive if I get them custom built. Maybe build two the same and use one as a sauna, extend the amount of time the wife will spend out there at one time I've got a 30 minute quad ride into the cabin so a shed package is out.

Default Trusses

You could always build your own trusses. These guys took me a couple hours to build and maybe a hundred dollars worth of material.

just built a 10/12 cabin with trusses. wish i would of used a simple birds mouth/rafter instead of trusses.

would of saved 40/60 lbs in plywood for the trussess and alot of nails.

Looks good guys. I'm shorter on time then I am on money these days. I built trusses for my last cabin and I found it rather time consuming. Maybe if I have some time free up next spring I'll take your advice and just do them myself. I'd love to see some pics of the finished cabins too

These cabins are amazing! Anyone know an area within range of Calgary I could put up a small shack to get away from the city. Love hunting and fishing but there was not much trapping where I came from.

If anyone has a small plot of land in the area I would like to rent a small area to put a shack, or even better if anyone knows a spot that is secluded and free!

Need a place to relax and enjoy nature.....Not a fan of the city.

There are lots of spots you can put a shack.

I plan on building on next summer as far away from people as possible. Renting land is not necessary, just get into the depths of the forests =)

illegal cabins are major problem for everyone. a big drain on the CO's resources. in 2012 there is really no where in north america that people don't go. just going out and building in the bush with out the proper permits is a very bad idea. making it more difficult for legitimate users such as trappers and other commercial recreation tenures to get proper permits.

If you don't have the proper paper work in place and forestry finds your cabin, my understanding is they will burn it down in the winter.
