So this Medicine Lake, can you launch a 16 foot fishing boat in it? If so, is there room for another fifth wheel?

This group site has its own boat launch and am sure it will handle 16 ft on trailer. Flygirl is keeping track of the units. If the group site is full the regualr campground is very very nice.

Yes I will be up there the morn of the 18th. We cant get the site until 2pm but if there is no one in the group site we can get in early. Yes there is a boat launch at both the group site and the main campground. The main campground is a cement launch, you can put your boat in there, drive around to the group site, tie up your boat ( no dock) jump in and out all weekend. yes joninab there is more room. Please pm me with details. Pot luck is usually second night, the rest of the time is fend for yourself. Sometimes someone cooks breakfast for everyone. We play that by ear.

Hmmm prizes are being done... Camping reservations done... I have got to thank all of you for getting involved such as you have. You have made this easy as pie.
I will be doing a pot luck on Sat night. And maybe some sing along stuff for big and small kids alike. I would like to do a fireworks show Sat night as well. Can you see what the camp ground rules and county bylaws are please Cathy I would not know who to contact. Has anyone thought of games for the kids yet? I will have first aid kits on site, with kids its always best to have everything you could ever need. There have been a few that have gone above and beyond anything I ever would have thought to get this going. I wont thank you publicly just yet But I assure you some kind of thanks is coming
I guess my next step is the food list, fire wood games etc etc. Please send me your contributions suggestions or questions to the pot luck or anything els that is listed or not listed above.

Jeff, are you going to organize the games for the ankle biters. If so a schedule of times, age groups, etc would be good to have to hand out to parents as they arrive. If you need me to do it up send me the schedule and I will print it off. Im going to come up with some games and send them to you. I would imagine the internet would be a good place to start. If you dont have the time for this let me know and I will do something up.

Some ideas:
1) The sign said NO FIREWORKS ALLOWED
2) Does anyone have a volley ball net-there is room in the center
3) I wll BBQ a big beef roast for the Saturday meal.
4) There could be a small soccer field marked out.
5) I will bring two hula hoops so Jeff and Cathy can have a hoop off!
6) A scavenger hunt would be fun and easy.
7) I am a First aid instructor and also have first aid kits ready.
8) There will be suprise gifts for the kids at my site.

medicine Lake Attractions
At the lake itself: Several miles of hiking trails of mild to moderate ability. One that leads along the east shoreline, will take you to the mouth of the river. This trail peters out at the Narrows, this is the best swiming spot on the lake. Continue down the old road bed to the river, about 3 miles round trip I think from the campground. I never actually paid attention.
Across from the camp kitchen (mostly west), you will find an ancient indian village, including several graves. It is in the large tall spruce trees to your right if you stand in the kitchen doorway. I am sorry to say it has not been protected so see it now, as it is getting destroyed.
On the way into the lake you will find a small rough campsite, on your left. It was previously used as a Boy Scouts retreat.
North of the entrance to the lake is a little lake called Gosling. It was created by Ducks Unlimited. I have caught small perch here but it may winterkill as it is shallow. There were 5 islands that you could walk to until the lake was dammed. It is a nice quiet spot with warm waters in the summer. Here is also the remains of an Indian Village. If you know where to look you can see where the underground camp was. It collapsed probably 30 years ago.
North of where the Medicine Lake road joins 22, there is a small "Ghost Town" MT Town. Some camping there. It is 29 miles to Rimbey but with about 18 miles of it gravel.
South of Medicine Lake is a small stocked trout lake, Open Creek Dam. It is a half hour trip east of the lake and back around to the west to reach.
Over all the fishing is not that great anymore as the lake is very popular. Good lake for kids to catch perch, go straight across from the camp kitchen. I work towards the narrows, and work my way around.
Have fun.

I'll be loading the truck up with firewood when I come out, which will probably be the friday night. I drive a Toyota so it won't be a huge load, but I'll stuff in as much as I can. I'll bring the saw along as well, and we can go cut some deadfall if we run out...

If you all would like to ask your kids what they would like to do feel free to do so and post back. I may have a large tent that we have used on other gatherings It belongs to another forum member I will check and see if I am able to use it. If thats the case and someone will have a gen set there I can bring some vids for the kids to view and keep them busy before bed.

Okay, I have to admit, I've never caught or fished for pike. I have spinning rods for the kids and one for the girlfriend. I have a fly rod that jts1 so graciously donated to a newb. What should I be bringing for pike on the fly and for the spinning rods? Wire leaders? I've only started back into fishing in the last two years and haven't been out much......so nobody laugh at me....kay....lol.

Just do a search for pike lures or pike flies. Lots of info here.
