bites on at the nsr april 23
weather turned nice around 6:00 so popped down to the nsr. in 2 hours caught 3 burbot, 1 pike and a hefty sucker. i'ts nice to see the different species returning to the edm. area. other people were catching lots of fish also. my appolagies to fellow AO member dustin who was fishing a fly rod and caught the biggest wallie of his life and i lost it for him at shore trying to assist (i had boots on).

Nice fish ninja. I've been out a couple times in the last week and haven't caught much. The water is really murky. I thought I'd ask this in here rather than start a new nsr thread; is there a site that shows the current water level of the river as it changes from day to day or week to week? I thought maybe the water treatment plants might have. Or even a graph showing the average fluctuations throughout the year?

Thank you perch. Also, is there a river cam of sorts around the city that anyone knows of? I am an hour east of Edmonton and about 30 minutes to the nearest bridge, so it would be nice to be able to monitor water levels and such online. I'd like to get out more often when the water isn't high, fast, and murky.

Great news from the Nija as always My fishn partner tryed to get me to play hooky today as he is down beside the river all day while I work at my desk, sort of? Cant wait to get down their

I'm kinda curious what streamer did he catch it on? Pretty tough fishing on the NSR right now with a flyrod with this chocolate milk. Good job. Let me know if you know, asumming he just dragged it on the bottom.

They dont actually go anywhere...
Its true that the rocky mountain whitefish and Goldeye will head towards the headwaters in the rockies but not in the huge numbers you would assume.
I did a two year study on the NSR in and around the Edmonton area with ASRD back in my biology days.
Its a very diverse fishery. I was surprised the first time we recovered a Brown Trout (yes a brown) near the whitemud creek outflow. The other biologist said they were there... We caught 4 more over the summer the first year. They are there just not in huge numbers.
My favorite fish out of the NSR still has to be the Quillback, really neat looking critters!
