Default Mosin Nagant

I was just wondering if anybody on here has a Mosin Nagant 1891/30? I would like to know how well they shoot. Are they accurate? Is ammo plentiful and relatively cheap? I saw them on the Milarm web site for $225, as new. Good price? My better half went out and spent 300 bucks on shoes and candles, so I figured I should have another rifle to add to my collection.

Shoes and Candles? Jebus, man...

I looked at a Nagant a while ago. It had a bright, beautiful bore, but it had a permanently-attached bayonet, which I didn't like. The price was $150, but I haven't seen many at that price since. I'd say that $225 for one with a nice bore is alright. $225 for one that's been all shot out is like tossing money into the wind.

7.62 x 54r surplus is actually very hard to find right now. Lots of 7.62x39 though.

Mine shoots under an inch @100 with proper ammo.
Proper ammo is 7N1 surplus (stamp 188) or reloads.
Rest of the surplus shoots fair. It is machine-gun ammo, as bolt action rifles are not in service in Europe for a long time now.

I'll probably sell mine though, at the upcoming gunshow, since I have a little too many rifles for too little time.

The sniper version, with the original scope can be worth a bit more.

Milarm has the 1891/30r for $225 and the sniper versions are $750 - $875. I haven't been able to track down any surplus ammo. Only hunting ammo. 20 rounds for $20. Anyone know where I can check in the Edmonton area? I've already called Milarm and P & D. Whould Wholesale carry that stuff?

I wish I could make it down to that. It's a bit far. 6 hour drive.

Mosin-Nagants are good rifles, I have a few. Most are really good shooters. My favorite out of my collection is the Finnish model M28 used by Simo Häyhä in WWII (not his actual rifle LOL), he used iron sights and had 505 confirmed kills.
Even had his jaw blown off while hunting another sniper, lived and won that battle.

The sniper Mosin-Nagants and SVT-40's made national hero's out of people like Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev and Ivan Sidorenko. Not to mention Nina Lobkovskaya.

Hope you find a good one. I would pay the 225 for one.

I believe he holds the record for most sniper kills. I read he preferred iron sights so he didn't have to stick his head as far up and he turned down scoped rifles that were nicer than what he was using because he preferred iron sights and was used to them. Quite the hero in Finland ,the rifle can't be too bad

Yes you are right about the iron sights I believe Ivan Sidorenko was the top in WWII with 781 kills. the movie "Emeny at the Gates" is based on his adventures.

Actually the movie was about Vasily Grigorevich Zaytsev my bad
