Default Freeze over around Lesser Slave Lake???

Hey guys,

I'm going to be headed up to the Slave Lake area around the middle of November for some moose hunting and fishing, and I was thinking of taking my buddy's 12' tin trolling boat, but I'm not sure if the creeks, rivers, and smaller lakes will be frozen over by that time. Any of you guys live or spend a lot of time up there know if it will be worth while taking the boat, or will the smaller bodies of water be frozen over? I assume the Lesser Slave won't be frozen over yet...

Thanks!
Jordan

Depends on the weather. We are getting to the point where at this time of year it's not uncommon to see day time temps can reach below freezing for several days in a row. If it does the smaller water bodies will freeze up. Mid November is really pushing it. We would normally have snow on the ground by then but I recall hunting in running shoes and a t-shirt during the 3rd week of Novemeber a few years ago. I also recall walking out on a large lake that had already froze over by months end.

Just watch the weather weekly and make the call closer to your departure. If I'm betting on it today, the boat will be staying home.

Its all guess work as far as freeze over. As far as ice fishing my rule of thumb on slave is Jan 1st and its go time.

Slave takes a long time to get ice cover, but once it does it thickens fast, so there could easily still be open water in mid nov.

I would bet the boat will be staying home too. Check here a week before you go, someone would be able to tell you then.
