Smile Hardest hunt of my life

Was fortunate enough to go on a 5 day BC goat hunt last fall. My buddy was able to connect on a 9" billy. Talk about a hard hunt. Pushed me right to the limits.
Weather played a big roll as we would get socked in with cloud cover half way up the mountain. Makes glassing goats almost impossible. Awsome hunt. Looking forward to doing it again. I have a new respect for mountain hunters being a flat lander living close to the Sask border. Haha.

He's going to do a life size mount of his trophy. Going to look awsome. Long hair. late Oct hunt

I thought goat country was steep. That looks fairly flat.

Go for goats they said. It'll be easy they said.

Nice goat and as hard as it is, when the hunt is over, you already start planning the next one.

Awesome! That's a hunt you will remember for a very long time (long after the cramps have subsided).

Looking forward to pictures of the mount. The long hair on that goat will look stunning.

Congrats. Not bad for a "flatlander". Bet you'll be doing some prep work getting into shape for next hunt.

Default Goat pic

We managed to get a pic of the goat just before my buddy started his stalk.
Amazing where they live.

x2 on the hardest hunt ever. Got my goat a couple years back on a hunter hosted trip to BC. Way harder than sheep hunting I thought!!

Anyhow, Congratulations on your hard earned trophy.
Thanks for posting.

Congrats on the hunt. I also hunted goats in bc last year and my buddy and I each shot his goat. Definitely the toughest hunt I've ever been on physically and emotionally. Weather is very frustrating.

Nikon, I'm just kidding you. I've been on several goat hunts in B.C. and they are indeed much tougher than the sheep hunts I was on.

One hunt took us an hour to scrabble out a spot flat enough to lay two sleeping bags on nearly level ground.

Climbed and hiked for two days in the rain only to spend the next 5 days socked in with visibility at 100 feet or less.

I would go again tomorrow if I wasn't so friggin old.

Congrats to your buddy on the goat!
I have accompanied someone on a goat hunt as well.
Definetly one of the more challenging hunts around.

As others have said, please do post up the story when you have time.

I hear you bud. Lol. I'm not exactly a spring chicken either. Hahaha.
Yah Its tough slugging going after goats. Climb for 4 hrs to find your goats moved on and turn around and decend which in most cases is just as hard.
Wiped out more times then I want to remember. Lol. Rode my Sako down the hill on several occasions. I was not impressed. But I'd do it again in a heart beat just might train a bit more before hand. Lol

He was shooting a 300 win mag. But now he wished he would have taken his bow. He basically walked right under the goat which was above him. He knew the goat was close but couldn't see it. So he started scaling the ledge across from the goat. He turned his head and caught movement. It was 40-50 yards directly across from his position. He couldn't believe how close he got to the goat. Dropped it and it only fell 20 feet or so. Didn't damage it at all on the fall.

Congrats! If you are going again, no more pie, and you better hop on a tred mill or bike pretty soon. October is just around the corner especially if you are hiking up a mountain. Train early and reap the rewards later! Good luck if you make it up there again!

Thanks.

The goat actually never fell to far. But my bud drug it a bit too a flatter spot to Cape and dress it. That's why he got so dirty. Face never had any tears or scrapes. It will actually be in perfect shape for his life size mount.
