I tried to be accurate, but there is a slight chance I may have given him a slight benefit of the doubt on a few questionable measurements(!). But, I did try to be accurate. Rather than give my exact score, I'll just say he gross scores over 200". A monster in my books!
A monster in anyone's books. Congrats Darren

Default Thumbs up :)

Congrats on a buck worth cheering for.
Not only is it huge, but you worked for it reading your story. You've had some challenges but kept at it. You deserve that dude!
Good work.

Wowza! That is one heck of a buck! And you can bet that, at this point in his life, he has passed on his genes to others in the population. Great work!

congrats! great story. Personally, I would be interested in hearing the expanded version of that story. IMO 1-2 deer a day can be about normal in the big timber for much of the season. Depending on the location the deer densities never get as high as farm deer.

Congrats on pulling through on a challenging hunt and taking a great deer!

Thanks everyone. Reading all the posts it is great to see everyone appreciate this deer. He really is something special. In person he is, at least to me, even more impressive. When I got him, my hunting partner joined me and we spent a lot of time with him - taking pictures and just admiring an old forest warrior. When I finally left to get the sled, and came back, his rack looked impossibly big. It was simply too big for his body; too big for a Whitetail deer. At least, that is how he looked to me. I really can't describe the feeling. A sense of accomplishment, happiness, respect and a little regret to have taken such a grand animal. I guess I feel that with every animal I take, but there is a little something more with this particular deer.

Once in a lifetime deer? Maybe, but I'll continue to try and find more giants in seasons to come!

Reviving an old thread...

Had a few requests for a story on this deer. If anyone is still interested, it is in the latest issue of Big Buck.

the work and challenge of a hunt are the best things. Spent my last two years of hunting with unfilled tags but the hard work still made it all worth while.

Congrats on a world class deer.
