Default Cougar encounter

Walked up on a cougar this afternoon south of Entwistle near the pembina. Got within 30 yards when we saw each other and he jumped out of his hide and high tailed it in the opposite direction. Sure as hell wasn't expecting that!

How many cats have you happened on like this? It's a first for me in over 13 years hunting. Sure hope they continue to end this way...

Haven't seen one that close yet!

Mind you, I wonder how many have seen me...

I came across one while moose hunting a few years ago. I was coming back to camp and saw him on a little hill right next to our camp. He was about 50 yards away and calm made his way down the slash away from camp when he saw me. I went up to where he had been on the hill, which was literally right next to camp. From all of the paw prints there, he had clearly been spending some time watching us earlier. It was awesome and un-nerving at the same time.
