Just watched a little of Chasin' Tail. This may be the lamest show of all time.
One guy even ordered a pizza for another guy, just to screw him up.

before this takes off, i have been involved. most people have no idea how difficult it is to get top quality animals in the wild to cooperate for acceptable footage. the reason so many whitetails and bears get whacked ontv is that taking a stand for them is the surest way to get suitable video for television. next problem is good hosting. again its tougher than you think. some of the best hunters out there and even some with top notch product come up short in truly connecting with an audience. others are great in front of the camera, but their footage is weak.
another thing people dont realize is that you dont really get to hunt....the camera does. if the camera doesnt have the right light, the proper angle, good footage leading into the shot etc....you dont shoot. the camera is the hunetr, the guy with the tag is just a trigger man. from experience, i know that it took something i love and made it a job that i didnt like. i rspect the heck out of those that can produce a quality show. it is an enormous undertaking to make it all come together.
now, you asked a question, so for me its knock on. i think they are the worst hosts out there.
further, i have made an effort to be as positive as i can around here, so ill throw out a favorite as well. canadian whitetail television. good hosts gathering great footage of fantastic animals on a regular basis.

Chasin' Tail takes a concept I love (hunting) and waters it down with everything I hate in a TV show;
-over produced
- over dramatized
-scripted 'reality'
- poor acting
-poor writing
I could go on...

Any show where they're wearing black hoodies and acting like they just killed King Kong bare handed when all they've done is whack a 3 lb duck.
I love waterfowling but never thought that I was at war with them.

And any show where they WHISPER at the top of their lungs the whole time.Even after the kill they are still at it.Little advice for the guys who make hunting shows......KNOCK IT OFF FOR CRISAKE!!!It`s annoying to listen to some guy lip pop the microphone for 15 minutes. It adds nothing to the drama .

It's easy to criticize as many of the guys who put on these do-it-yourself shows have no on-screen talent. Not their fault, they just don't. "I like to hunt and I'm good at it so I'll produce a show" doesn't always work. You need to be engaging. There are a few hosts that do little more than grunt and never smile. C'mon (unnamed member). Smile! Act like you are excited! I used to wonder about that Brice Foldin and his goofy joker grin but the guy's really grown on me. He's clearly truly excited, like a kid at christmas, when he hunts. Would probably be a lot of fun to be in the field with. I enjoy watching his shows now.
But that Team Fall Brawl... come on... Those guys appear to be worse shots than me (And that's quite an accusation LOL). Sky busting galore. Take six shots and drop one bird while one more limps off wounded.
And if I hear that guy say "I'm living your dream" one more time I'll.....
Oh yeah, and any show that doesn't mic their people and just uses the one on the camera. You turn up the sound because you can't hear them speak and then the music deafens you. Heck maybe close caption it. Production values often suck.

Minor derail.
I assume many of you get WILD TV. I get it through Shaw. Love it, but what I hate is that there are no episode descriptions in the Shaw on-screen guide, so I end up taping the same episode three times! I know Outdoor Quest is coming up soon, but I have no idea what the episode is about so don't know if I've already seen it. Does everyone have that problem with WILD, or just WILD on Shaw?
One would think WILD would care about that problem, but they don't seem to.

Same problem on Telus, Oko. Yes, it is irritating.

Bad show ?
I watched a episode of a show the other day on Wild, Cant remember the name but it was set at a Fairmont Resort In Quebec and not one of the hunters talked they just gave thumbs up and mimed it seemed while a commentator gave the worst running commantary in the Background. Problem is I waited hoping to see a big buck and in the end all they got at this world class hunting resort was a couple small white tail ? Waste of a half hour

Can you not set up a series recording on your PVR that is for new episodes only?
I don't get WILD yet, looking at upgrading though.

Always thought Canada in the Rough with Thomas Pigeon as host was the, "Beachcombers", of the hunting show world. Lame commentary and amateurish product placement shots...

I'll go out on a limb here - in my humble opinion most hunting shows are quite lame, there are some great standouts though.
I realize it must be tough and heck of a lot of work but the thing is I don't care about trophy size, I want some erudite presentation about the animals, the tools, the techniques, the places etc. Someone on AO once wrote that he would rather watch 'solid doe hunts' over some boring footage of big bucks. I agree. Lets face it, there are thousands of kill shots of big bucks for free online. A kill shot of a trophy no longer makes an interesting hunting show IMO.
The reason why authors like Peter Flack, for example, are good is not only because they write well but they present an entire package, they are scholars of hunting as it encompasses guns, geography, history, travel, shooting, conservation biology etc. Video needs the same - diversity and detail of info. Watching guys drive around and then shoot a huge buck is boring at best. The thing that makes Steve Rinella's work appealing is that it has these elements. Sure he has a big dollar production team but that aside is that it has substance.
