Default My 2014 Trapping journal

Figured I would run a journal this year and see if I can get some decent pics this year.
Was lucky enough to buy a line and here is my cabin.

She needs some work but I am looking forward to it.
Here is my shed and my nice fire pit that got stolen a few weeks back

Got a few Grizz Around

Got the snares boiled and ready for the line. Got 3 dozen new marten traps with pans on them done today as well

And then the start of Rat season

Well I just got back from my trapline. I set 22 boxes the first day and got about 9 the second part of the next day and then checked my first boxes I set out. I must admit I did not expect to catch anything and figured if I was lucky I would have 1. Well after doing a loop on those 22 boxes I had 7 marten in less than 24 hrs!! I am pretty excited about that. I took a bunch of pictures of some snared coyotes and my marten check but after reading what has been gone on while I was away I am not sure I dare post any pics up. Not sure what happened but it sounds like pictures just brings on grief these days

Sounds like you had a great start to the season Phil. Post all those pics, I'll be posting all mine this year as soon as I get this Muley and get out to the line.

I'll give you a shout tomorrow. Was on daddy daycare duty today with a sick 2 year old.

Got my last batch of coyotes in just in time for the next sale. Had to get the gal at Halfords to snap a quick pic for me.

Here is a coyote I got where they like to duck under a fence. I have caught 3 here now.

Well the season is done for the registered line. I wish it could go all year long.
But I had a heck of a last couple days and got to spend some great time with my 6 year old.

Got some new marten boxes built and bought to try out. Thought i would throw a pic of todays catch as well as the marten I did up this year minus the ones at the tannery.

Well here we go on another season. First snare out for the year and a few coyote catches. Got 8 in one day on 3 baits which was a good start.

Lots of wolves this year around. This one showed up 100 yards from the cabin the night I got there in a fresh skiff of snow. I had just brought in my beavers to start marten trapping and I could here them howling all night and morning. Went out to start the marten line and saw the fresh tracks 100 yards away and was amazed they would come so close.

I made these boxes this summer and put them up. I like them but I found that sometimes the marten does not hang out of the box and the birds come and pick at them and there are tuffs of hair pulled out. I think I will have to revamp things so when the marten gets caught he falls out of the box.

Met this guy along the trail. I gave him a chunk of bait when I left as I had a marten box 50 yards away and didn't want to see him in the box when I got back. So far it has worked but no marten in the box yet.

Squirrel numbers are super high this year. They are everywhere and like to eat marten bait

I can't keep these guys away either. They sure take a beating in those 120's

A good catch on this one

I am really liking using pans on my triggers
