Default Smitty sled for hauling gear

Hey just wondering who uses a smitty sled for ice fishing, building one today and wondering how wide you guys like em. I’m thinking between 30 and 40 inches wide, have some old rental skis from marmot basin to repurpose. It will haul my pelican full of gear plus tent and gas auger.

I use my Smitty sled early season up until I can drive on and for late season when the ice is not derivable and I load it up as high as I can go most days on my large Otter sled.

I mounted my skis under the last rib that sticks out on the bottom of the sled with a set of long pins with ring handles and I just push them in and out for taking it apart quickly in the back of the truck.
For some great ideas fo over to the iceshanty.com forums and search Smitty sled. There are lots of plans and pictures for ideas there.

I built a smitty sled this summer also. I bought a used pair of downhill skis and copied a picture of the one I liked online. I made mine 36" wide I believe and I made it so I could lay a scrap piece of 1/2" plywood on it and pin in place so I can pull out deer etc. while hunting in areas that are walk in only, in addition to pulling out on a lake. All in my total cost for the sled including skis, 2"x8", 2'x4", screws, glue/silicone, eye bolts, half sheet of scrap plywood, etc. $40. Can't wait to try it.
