Default Medicine Hat Food bank.

Hey guys I thought I would put a quick post on here to let everyone know that the Med Hat food bank will gladly take wild meat. They pay for the processing as well, just drop it off the animal at Deerview meets and they will take it from there. So if you have an extra tag you don't need, think about doing something for someone who needs it.

That's awesome..I tried to donate in the past and they wouldn't take wild meat. Glad to see that the program has made its way down! Well done to those who worked on it!

Perry Deering is top notch, and it's worth checking out to see some of the deer he has mounted there

Good to know. Local AO member Threeforthree also had a great idea, and suggested how great it would be if SRD were to add additional (Suffield) elk tags, on the condition that the animals harvested would go to the Food Bank. Sounds like a Win/Win to me.

If they were gonna do that on suffield I'm thinking they would just load the elk in trailers an slaughter them at the processing facility to have a more controlled enviroment

Good to know DeerView is accepting game for the food bank... The kicker is the inspection part, obviously DeerView has this covered. We use to provide alot to the food bank or what we butchered, but years ago the stopped accepting the meat as it was not inspected.. Really too bad, but appears they have it figured out again !

They should of had a truck parked at the check in station to take animals like wainwright. I'm sure a few people would of donated their 18 year old giant cow elk.

Deerview meats is a game farming operation. None of my game will go there and support that, foodbank or not.

This is great news. It's always good to help those in need, especially near Christmas. Way to go Deerview and yes Perry is a top notch guy!

Perhaps if anyone knows other food banks offering this it would be a good idea to post it?......

Also if you don't know ask. I happened to know a guy on the board at the food bank and we got the ball rolling. A day later he called back said that Perry would do it for them and that they would be happy to take the meat for those who need it. I have wondered about it for years after reading in the regs that Edmonton and Calgary have been doing it for years with HUGE success and wondering why we couldn't. All it took was a little initiative and now we can, I wish I had inquired sooner! So if you wonder ask your local food bank.

Good to know but I am in Calgary and not able to get the meat to them.
I would gladly go out and fill another doe tag!

Has this made the newspaper at all? Not only would it get the word out to more hunters that would be willing to donate, but some good publicity for the hunting community would result as well.
