Marlin XL7
My first post! I was just at wholesale sports and a Marlin XL7 was shown to me. I'm looking for a .243 is it worth getting or am I wasting my time?
Ps. Looking into selling my .17 HMR Browning T-Bolt

great rifle for the money  I have one in .243 and really like it....
one feature it really misses: a magazine......would be a great thing to have....

i got one in .243 and love it! best group yet was 7/8 center to center at 400 yards! great gun for the money!

i love it! iv got a savage with the accu trigger and i love this one way more! it is very crisp and smooth and the trigger pull is so light on mine!

I'd rather have the XL7/XS7 than an equivalently-priced Savage. I've had and used both.

My XS7 is my favourite rifle. With hand loads it'll shoot 1/2 MOA from a lead sled, the action feels good, it feels right in my hands, and the trigger feels good. I liked the factory stock but I like wood better than plastic so I put it in a boyd's laminate stock, and now I like it even more!

What other stainless gun that shoots MOA with a 2.5 pound trigger can you buy thats $340.00 bucks? My son has one in 270win and there will be a couple more comming soon. Savage who???

Got one for my wife in 7-08 a couple years ago.
I hate synthetics but the stock accommodates a smaller stature and the grip a smaller hand.
You can hang a decent scope on her and still have some change left over for a cup of coffee.
It's a great little gun at an entry level price....good value.
Oh and I have the Savage equivalent...the Edge...now called Axis in 22-250.
It shoots great but was rough/clunky till it was well broken in. The magazine feels like it was the love child of a bake-light ashtray and a coffee can.
It works fine and I'm OK with it but if I had it to do over again...I'd have 2 of those Marlins.

I have a Marlin XS7 in 243win, hands down my favorite rifle, accurate as hell even with the el cheapo "remchester" $20 boxes.
When I have had friends shoot her, the are all amazed at the trigger, its fackin phenomenal!
Mines a pre-remington model ("JM" stamped barrel). Some lesser known features that I really like, is that if you'd like an aftermarket stock, Boyds makes an awesome wood laminate. Although you can take pretty well any stock designed for a SA winchester M70 and it will fit with some slight modifications, mainly for the barrel nut (which is not an identical thread to the Savage/Stevens, similar but not identical). You'd have to order them with a blind mag, so it may cost you more but it is a $300 rifle.
I also believe that I read on the marlin owners forum that one gent ordered a boyds stock for a LA Win M70 (XL7), and also orded a replacement trigger guard and floor plate from Winchester... a little frankenstien, but it worked. This was some time ago though, so it may be harder to locate, or my facts could be off...
Mine has served me very well, and I have and will continue to recommend them to others.

Also if you'd like to change from the Weaver style picatiny rail, you can use any base thats compatible with the Win M70.

I have one and I like it very much. At that price range there's a Savage they showed me at WSS that I liked too but the Marlin felt better balanced. Mine is 7mm-08 with Bushnell 3200 scope for around $200, I have a very nice deer rig.

So it sounds like this is a pretty slick rifle! But the real question is, should I save my pennies and buy something that is a little bit more money. EI... let's say a Browning X bolt or buy the Marlin and get an ok scope for the same money.

For the price of an X-bolt you could buy an XL7 and a nice scope (Bushnell 3200, Redfield, low end leupold, burris FF II, etc.) and still have money left over.
I wouldn't get rid of my marlin to "upgrade" to a browning. Not worth it to me.

Or if you were gonna spend a $1000 bucks on a rifle and $400 on a scope. You could spend $400 on a rifle and a $1000 on a scope.Lol
