Default Chain Lakes Reservoir Today (December 24th)

was pretty slow fishing most of the morning and it picked up probably around 12:30 overall caught around 4 Rainbows and a sucker ( are suckers common here? ) and the rainbow i kept had eggs in it when i gutted it ( is this common?) i thought it was a stocked lake and they didn't reproduce here.
Here is some pics! ice was 12 inches

Default Reproduction

Just because fish like rainbow trout do not reproduce in the lake does not mean they don't go through egg development and spawning behavior. The reason they are unable to reproduce is there are no suitable locations for the eggs to be fertilized, incubated and hatch. Now on the other hand if the lake is stocked with triploid rainbow trout which are genetically modified then they supposedly do not develop eggs or go through spawning behavior. All this energy stays with the fish leading to them growing much faster and to very large sizes.

Nice fish by the way. I love pulling those chrome rainbows through the ice.

There are natural diploid rainbows in there. Just not very many compared to triploid.

Thanks for informing me about the egg growth in the fish, now I can understand why this happens! Thanks

Nice catch

I caught a few suckers when I was there the other day. All off the bottom. Cool to see one(trout) with eggs, none of the 10 we took earlier in the week had eggs.

we caught a triplod last year from a dugout lake and had eggs in it. forum response was that it can happen, but not often. we know it was triplod cause lake has only been around a few years and only stocked with triplods.

those eggs would make killer bait or chum.

fentochris. i was just using a small piece of shrimp on a small hook with 4 bb split shots about 2 feet above, caught it in around 8ft of water right near shore.
i was thinking of keeping the eggs for bait but i didn't now i regret it
