There goes the Bow
Heavy rainfall warning for Southern Alberta. They're predicting up to 75mm/3in between tonight and Friday morning.
I'm guessing the Bow is going to be blown out by the weekend

sounds like the best fishing in the bow is about to start. I always find that a hand full of my spots just fire up with non stop action when the bow is high and dirty. yup. sounds like good times ahead

New to Calgary,
Why is this a sad thing? Is it because of house flooding? Or is the fishery going to disappear because of the increase in water?

High, dirty river makes it pretty hard for the fish to see the flies.

Before you get your britches in a bundle,,,, The sidewalk worm picking right now is phenomenal,, Big Dewwies, little red wigglers and the creme a'la creme, baby worms,, or as the Italians would say Vermicelli. Pick up a bag of very dry soil (so they can firm up again) and store in a really cool place (e.g., Calgary).
As for the big murky Bow,, just read your water signs,, back eddy's holding flotsam,, run your flies near shorelines with muddy banks and foilage,, big fish know what gets washed out of the ground and off the branches. Try to get to the opposite side of Policemans and upstream a bit. Fish go nutty in the big murk, it's a smorgasbord for them. cast your line into the muck.

The water is never too dirty for the fish to eat. The big rainbows are coming back downstream after the spawn with this runoff and they are HUNGARY!
Lots of fish will be REALLY close to the shoreline, within a few feet or closer.
This high dirty runoff can produce some of the best action of the year. I'll be out there nymphing San Juan worms, Stone flies, and bead head patterns.

So I guess bouncing SJWs or Pheasant Tails off the bank and down into the running water would be a good bet for the next few weeks then?

Braun, your spot is ready and calling.
Big change in the water from yesterday to today. Not only in color, but in depth and flow.
The color has gone from a dk green tint to mainly a Lt. muddy brown. The depth is sitting at roughly the bottom of the erosion marks along the banks in most places. This is making a drop off of about a 1-1.5 ft. common along the river bank. By late afternoon the water had risen slightly and was coming over the sides of the banks slightly in some places where the vegetation normally grows year round. Flow rate is of course increasing with the increase in depth.

Was driving deer foot today between Memorial and Blackfoot. really notice the water running quite fast and when you drive down Blackfoot over the river you can tell it has started to come up the banks of the river.
Quite the Rain i am kinda getting sick of it i just moved back here from Vancouver a year ago on the 30th to get away from it all
