Default Nosler Rifles

I know this is a tall order....but does anyone have an opinion on the Nosler Rifles. Was trying to do some searches on the forum to see what the general thoughts were, but my search turned up nearly blank.

Got looking at the M48 Trophy Grade Rifles, and just wondering what the word on the street was about them?

I've handled the exact rifle in store. The features are nice like the Pacnor barrel. I did not like the action. It handled too rough for my liking and actually lightly jammed itself. It was easy to fix but I wouldn't expect that from a high end manufacturer. I would much rather true up a Remington 700, spin on a new barrel, and install a new stock and trigger than go with the Nosler.

Just my two bits. Go handle one yourself. You might find that you really like it. I am sure it would shoot fine.

All the Nosler's are is a over priced, Howa 1500 (aka Weatherby Vanguard)!

I have handled a couple, I have not shot them, and I do not know anyone who has one, having said that the ones I handled did not impress me, especially relative to the cost.

I agree that for the money involved you would be far better ahead starting with either a Remington 700 action or a Winchester Model 70 and tweaking it to your heart's desire. The Remington in particular has so many aftermarket options that in my opinion at least you would wind up far further ahead going that route and probably a good bit cheaper as well.

On the other hand if that is what you want and it satisfies all of your desires then go for it and don't listen to us old opinionated cranks........

Good luck with whatever you choose, enjoy and have fun, and all of the best of the holiday season to you!

Overpriced, I would buy a Cooper, Sako or Weatherby Mark V before a Nosler. Not super smooth, 90 degree bolt lift, basically a super expensive Vanguard. Actually, I would buy a Vanguard Back Country first.

have not handled one, but it is my understanding that the actions are from Malcolm Forbes .. agreed with previous responders that you are further ahead stroking out a 700 action..Prophet River has some of Malcolm's new production line of ultra lites for around $1800... Nosler uses new ultra lite custom rifle actions in their proof house / range

Default Nosler customs

I handled one at WSS about a year ago and like many of the other replies, I was not impressed with the rifle, especially with how much they are asking for them. Rough Bolt, Small lugs, very small extractor etc etc etc......parts of it certainly reminded me alot of my Vanguards. Although, I LOVE my WBY Vanguards, so you might love the Nosler! Tough sell for the cost though.......For that price I would look towards a Wby Mark V, Sako or a cooper first.

Cheers, Dudes2010

They are very good. Hunting partner has one in 325wsm. They are made from the best parts unlike the boutique brands that are there for show not go like Sako and Cooper. They are just as pretty to show off as the latter mentioned models.

Could not disagree with you more Mr. Hat, but alas the wonders of the internet where we can have different opinions.

Are you suggesting that Sako made the TRG for show? Lol Does Nosler have any contracts with some of the worlds most elite militaries?

My mistake, I was only referring to hunting rifles. The TRG is a fine bench rest rifle. I have never been impressed with Sako hunting rifles, they are good for 80’s technology but many of the other brands have surpassed them in accuracy. As per military contracts, I have not seen who has what on the books. I do know that Norinco has massive military contracts and I don’t see that as an elite producer of fine weaponry. Thanks for chiming in Wally.

Well every time a Nosler rifle is assembled, a hush falls over Mecca and a baby seal is born. Firing them is known not only to combat cancer but it replenishes the ozone layer. MC Hammer wrote a song on ones inability to touch its accuracy with a rifle of different make. It is also known as the only thing Chuck Norris is scared of. I just read this off the tag that came with the rifle. I's checking the interwebs and....nope....neither Sako or Cooper seem to be making similar claims.

I only have experience with one Nosler rifle, but any of my Cooper, Anschutz, or Tikka rifles would easily outshoot that particular rifle, as it was all that it could do to beat moa, with it's preferred load. It looked and felt like a glorified Howa, and some of Howas were more accurate.

Thanks for the input guys. You've given me a lot of good options to consider that would likely turn out a lot more affordable than the Nosler.

And by the way GWN....I like listening to you "Opinionated Old Cranks".

Everyone have a Merry Christmas.

Gmurphy,
It's too bad that some of the "gentlemen" on this site just couldn't answer your questions like "gentlemen" instead of acting like a bunch of yapping schoolgirls at each other. Pretty embarrassing there fellas, just saying.
Good luck with your original request for info on A nosler rifle, doesn't look like your getting it today on this site.

Exactly. You try and help someone by providing them with useful information and look what you get.

I think we did until bergerboy came on like he knew what he was talking about , and when he was called out , got flippant about it- especially when it was found he knows nothing about a particular rifle he was bashing.
The fact remains that the Noslers are decent guns, but from what we can gather , not worth the cash when compared to rifles of the same price point.

If you do some searches on the net the general consensus is that they are a glorified Howa action...
