Default rookie first time father and son hunter looking for someone with experience

Hello we are an active father and son team who have never hunted before. We frequent the Waipouraous area often to harvest trees, shoot clay targets and 4x4 with our trucks. Recently got an elk tag and game bird license. Looking for someone who is familiar with this area and elk or game bird hunting. We have our PAL and a lee enfield, tactical shotgun, .22LR and a sks. Only like to hunt what we eat and would love to share and elk if you can teach us how. Also would love to learn how to hunt game birds. Willing to travel an hour any way from cochrane.

I'll guess the Enfield is a 303? That's probably the best gun for the big game. Might be worth it to try a OTC whitetail tag & learn to recover the meat as your first experience. The combat shotgun not gonna work for bird game. The good news is used rifles & shotguns are plentiful & affordable. Others will chime in, listen as much as you can, there's a world of experience here. Good luck!

Probably setting the bar a little high with the elk
And you will probably have to travel a little further than an hour from Cochrane

As said earlier
Your best bet is to start with a otc whitetail tag and go from there

I think never shooting game before I would start out in a gopher field with a 22.
