Ballistic Studies Website
Thought I’d thow this link up. The most in depth study of bullet performance on game I have ever seen. From just about any cartridge. Give it a read if there is a bullet/cartridge combination you are wondering about trying. Odds are you’ll find some good info about it here.

Yep, been reading the reports for several years now. Great in depth research and studies with thier first hand experience. Gives the hunter reloader better detail in what that particular bullet he intends to hunt with.

I've bought the three book skills combination and they are so good that I just bought the other 2. Wish I'd have saved the money and bought all 5 in the first place and I'd seen this site before I bought my last rifle.

Found this site 6-7 years ago. It's been a research favorite. I have helped numerous people develop hunting loads over the years and first thing I do when someone asks what bullet they should use in their particular caliber I send them to that site

So here is the paragraph in question. You should be able to tell us why you think this is false information. Keep in mind he says most, not all.
Quote:
“Most pre 9/11 ammunition produced very poor performance on game. The combination of low muzzle velocities, non aerodynamic bullet designs and the trend towards 22” barrels all took a toll on performance. At close ranges this ammunition performed adequately but at ranges beyond 100 yards, kills could be very slow. At 200 yards, lean bodied animals would often show no sign of a bullet strike whatsoever and escape to cover. Many hunters would have been fooled by what seemed like a complete miss when using this ammunition of the past.”

Also keep in mind his frame of reference for ammo availability is not the USA.

Most of my experience is pre 9/11, have never seen animals shot at 200 yards not show signs of being hit. I have used the 270 steady since the early seventies, mostly deer, elk and moose and a few bears.

Very interesting indeed
It is no secret that I am not a 270 fan but that is predjudially based , nothing more .
I have no idea what the difference Post 9/11 made but people have been raving about the 270 since its inception and I have never heard complaints about poor ammo quality or low velocities - none that were substantiated anyway

Every knows that you can't kill anything reliably with a 270! That caliber is only good for small deer and bunny rabbits.
Ammo available in that country could be different from what's found here

Obviously they killed , just wondering ,did the animals need follow up shots?
As far as not hunting with a cartridge I know guys who won't hunt with 308's .303's 30/30's, 7 mags or 30'06's- in fact if the cartridge is named I'll bet someone can think of someone who will not hunt with it fir one reason or another !

A couple of them did, it's almost like the bullets separated in flight, I still have a couple of unused boxes of them. I did read somewhere that Speer had problems with them

I like this site and was reading it often.
Their experience usually corresponds with what I have seen in the field .
One can pick up on a specific paragraph for some calibers , but after about 130 big game kills with different calibers and different bullets I would agree with most of what these guys are saying .

I think the .270 is a great cartridge myself. Hunted with one a bit back in the day, but with handloads. The whole point of the studies outlined in this website
is to demonstrate the differences in performance that can show up between different bullets and at different velocities, and within a specific cartridge. He is not knocking the .270! At the end of the write up he praises the .270 as a very effective cartridge. In fact one of his favourites! If you take the time and read carefully what he is trying to get across here, there is a heck of a lot of info in this website. A careful read may reveal a few things you didn’t previously know.

I don’t either but that doesn’t automatically mean his statement is false.

He’s not a fan of Grand Slams either. In fact he was disappointed with them enough that he says he chose not to write about them in his studies.
