The was a 17 mach II in a Cooper at Profit River in LLoyd, might be quite a bit more than you are looking to spend. FS

Hey Fishhawk. You will enjoy the 17mach 2..I bought one at Russells in Calgary last year - it is a lower end marlin bolt action...it had a dodgy trigger so I upgraded...for a $220 gun it makes quick work of gophers...way cheaper than the 17hmr for ammo...hope you have luck in finding one!

17 Mach II
Here is something to consider. Convert a Ruger 10/22 over to a 17 Mach II.
I have one and the little gun is awesome. I bought a kit and it was easy to do. Only issue you will have is "banana" shaped magazines. They are unreliable. The 10 shots work great. I am trying to find some of the "tri" 10 shot mags.
Great little gun and round for gophers especially for kids.

Conversion kit
I bought mine through the net south of the border but I thought there was a company out of BC that deals with Ruger 10/22 stuff and I believe they have it.

Kits
I am sure these kits are available up here. Mine is an ER Shaw.
I am sure if you phone them, they could probably get a kit in.
We used ours on gophers this year and the kid had no problem reaching out to 130 yards with his and I am sure you could stretch it out a bit more.
It is not a gopher vapourizer but it is really nice to shoot and you can find the ammo for about $90/500.

The price of ammo is why I want with the Mach2 the wife was going to buy me a 17hmr for xmas but when I started priceing ammo I told her to hold off. For the $.32 a round I would just keep shooting my 22-250 for the long range gophers, I can build 40gr 22-250 for about that price. I just want something a little quieter for those longer shots. Just did not think it would be that hard to find a 17Mach2, not as popular as I thought they be for the gopher shooter. I talked to the guys at the fishing center and they say they have not sold one and he could not find one at any of his suppliers. Yet every gun store you go into has the ammo. We went down to Basspro last weekend and they had cases laying all over the place but not a gun to shoot it, does not make much sence to me.

Have not seen any Eley but I was only looking for Hornady. I will let you
know if I see it. The net says that Cabelas has it.

I was looking online, and I saw a test comparing Eley,Hornady, and Remingtom 17 Mach 2 loads. The Eley and Remington were the fastest, with the Hornady loads a bit slower.
I guess that I found the reason for the Eley and Remington loads testing so much alike.I was doing some online searching, and I discovered that Eley is producing the 17 mach 2 ammunition for Remington using the Eley priming process,so I guess that I can just buy Remington and get the same results.

I am looking for a source of 17 Mach 2 ammo in the Edmonton area, preferably Eley, but I am in no real rush.I will likely get Clay to bring in ten or so bricks for me next spring, but I will buy a brick in the meantime to try out my new Cooper, when the weather warms up.I actually found some Remington and Hornady at Bashaw, and I will be close by next week,so I will likely just drop in and see Pud,and pick up some Remington for now.
