Default chewing tabacco prices

31.00 a can at macs store in sherwood park for a can of copenhagen!!!

this is absurd. 3.35 a can in Wyoming. is our tobacco taxed that much? really?

I know, just don't use tobacco products. I get it.

Is chewing tobacco taxed that much more than cigarettes or liquor>
does anyone know?

I've cut down a lot since they took away wintergreen and raised prices to 30 a can. I'll take chew from the states any chance I can get, but I'm done buying it in a store

What does that guy have to do with the price of a can in Alberta?

Alberta and Ottawa set the taxes and as long as we keep buying then they will keep on raising the tax.

I am lucky that I was able to quit tobacco some time ago although it also seems as less people us these products the taxes go up because the Feds are'nt getting as much income any longer. Bites ya both ways I guess

Not much different than minimum wage...thanks to the Dipper.
We'll just have to raise prices to make sure everyone shares the tax.

Yeah it's brutal , I work with American iron workers quite often and they always bring up tons , just throw them a little cash. They can't get over how much we pay for things like tobacco and alcohol , they have a good laugh.

Yep I always try to buy it when I am in Montana at the cabin,,,,,,$4.00 a tin. Just a tip if coming across the border though Alberta, if you are over your limit it works out to $12.00 a tin, if you come through BC it works out to the same or higher.

Default Only because kids are on this forum .

The reason the taxes are so high on this product is that the costs
Of social medicine are so high to treat cancer . In the US of A you
Pay big time for medical treatment . One way or the other someone's
Getting your hard earned dough .

I ordered my chew off the internet all the time.

I used to order the icecream bucket of stokers from the northerner website all the time.
$20 for the tub, $5 shipping then $140 duty/tax.

Saves money in the long run because every once in awhile I wouldn't get charged duty.

The tobacco tax is a big cash cow for the gov't. Even after taxing/pillaging the user the gov't is still suing the tobacco companies for billions too.

If tobacco is so bad the gov't should stop allowing the sale and licencing of tobacco. But that is too logical and dries up the money flow. And Ontario farmers would be out of work.

Chewers need to grow and press their own tobacco leaf. Smokers should blend their own kinnikinnick mixtures. You can smoke as much as you want for free.

Chewing tobacco is very addictive, I used Copenhagen for 25yrs, I was finally was able to get off it by mixing herbal chew with the Copenhagen. As the can started to go down, I added more herbal chew. After about a week, I was on pure herbal. I stayed on the herbal for about 2 months, just to satisfy the habit of going to my pocket. This was an easy way to taper off, It may help some of you. I have now been off tobacco for the last thirteen years.

In total agreement, instead of taxing necessities like power/ gas etc tax the living crap out of booze, junk food and tobacco.
I talked with a friend of mine who went to SA and he said food staples were very cheap and affordable. Junk was expensive as hell.
If you do not like quit.

Unfortunately that would not work. it would just spur an underground economy.

Until an individual takes it upon him or herself to quit no increase in prices will ever help.

I see the kids gathering outside the high school in Airdrie smoking and cannot help but wonder where they get the money.

Showed my grandson how much it was costing him per month and how it would pay for a new truck. WOW he quit within a week and that is over a year ago.

If you have no incentive to quit then you will just keep on paying. And sadly your health is not incentive enough because all tobacco users do not believe they will be the next. I though that too until my youngest sister passed away from lung cancer.

I smoked for over 40 yrs so if I could quit (6 yrs) then so can anyone else.

In the meantime the govt. will just continue to raise taxes and the smokers will just keep on paying.

Currently at our residence in the Phoenix area. Bought a roll (5 tins) of Grizzly Long Cut Straight at Wal Mart for $9.64. Its $2.13 for a tin of Skoal Straight. I should quit though. The missus is on my case and I don't blame her actually.

Addictiveness varies from person to person. I chewed cope for 10 years and quit cold turkey this summer. Two weeks the cravings were gone, except for the occasional one.

Just the way Government likes people to think!!! Most of us immediately pass it on in price increases...sorry, but we ALL pay.
No different than taxing corporations....who do you think pays for that?
