Default Jamie Oliver santoku knife Japanese ?

Got this knife free with stamps collected or you can buy it for 69$

Another case of trying to deceive . To me this sounds like a contradiction
Santoku is a Japanese word
The knife says it's made in China
The knife says its German steel lol

2 or 3 years ago I bought a set of Henckels knives that were noted to be German steel and made in Europe, they were manufactured in Spain. I was being careful to not buy Chinese. While its not always easy or possible for some things, I try where I can. We in North America really need to re-invigorate our manufacturing base and the best way to do it is by supporting ourselves with our own buying power. We need to put our money where our mouths are.

Yes Santuko is a Japanese word, it is the style (shape) of the blade, steel is manufactured in Germany and then exported to China where underpaid workers make a Japanese style knife. As far as invigorating manufacturing jobs in North America, IMO unions have made the cost of labour to high.

Thanks for the explanation but we all know they try to deceive with Japanese and German

The price should have been your first clue. Jamie Oliver's name on it your second clue.

Just sayin'

The Mrs is also a coupon clipper, she got the same one in you're pic, I had to put a better/sharper edge on it, so far no missing digits. Found the instruction/warranty interesting, came in 20 plus languages. We'll see how it stands up.

Generally, anything with a celebrity's name on it is garbage and marked up astronomically from what it is actually worth. Kind of like that furniture called the "Brooke Shields Collection" costs double what the same item is without her name on it.

Looks like a rip off of the steel that the premium German manufacturers use (IE Wusthof uses X50CrMo14).

Probably be a servicable knife if kept sharp, but far from top quality. The MSRP those knives list are a joke. Henckels Twin series is much better value, way better knives for less money (NOT HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL). But if you got the knife for free with stamps, I wouldn't complain. Makes a great camp/trailer knife I'm sure!

This is in my eyes a top value in Kitchen knives, love mine. Rumored to be made by Grohmann.

Henkels have many grades of knives - the one in the picture is made in China, has one figure which would indicate one of their entry level knives - which are still pretty good products when compared to products of similar price.

They (Henkels) have other knives that are 8-10 times the price and would not be made in Asia, and would have better steel.

It's like buying a Cadillac CTX and comparing it to a Chevy Sprint - both are GM products, both are cars.

Our first set of Henkels was that series - and my knives have chipped (splitting some ribs) but the new set (twin series European made) will rip through a rib with no issues.

We went with Grohmann kitchen knives, bought them at the factory in Pictou. I have nothing but good things to say about them, and we liked the fact that we were buying Canadian.
