Default Help -- What is Bait fish

Thanks for helping in advance. I am reading the regulations and got confused on two descriptions on Bait Fish

A.
Page 28 "Bait Fish may be used in waters that do not have bait bans or bait fish restrictions. Where fishing with bait fish is prohibited, other baits including smelts, herring, gammarus shirmp and dead fish eggs may be used, provided a bait ban is not in effect for that water body"

According to this discription, smelts fish is allowed in Lakes such as Spray lakes with "Bait Allowed (except bait fish)". Is this right? Or, smelt is not allowed in spray lakes?

B.
Page 27
"Bait Fish means any of the following
.....
minnows (family Cyprinidae), except carp, goldfish and the western silvery minnow"

According to this diescription, goldfish does not count as bait fish. Does this mean goldfish can be used in the lakes with "bait fish restrictions"? Or goldfish can not be used as bait?

Yes you can use Smelt at Spray.

Fish and Wildlife will ticket you if they catch you using minnows.

Thank you very much. How about goldfish, which can buy in the PetLand as the feeder fish. Is goldfish allowed to use as the bait?

Bait Fish means any of the following:

suckers (family Catostomidae)
sticklebacks (family Gasterosteidae)
trout-perch (Percopsis omiscomaycus)
Iowa darter (Etheostoma exile)
minnows (family Cyprinidae), except carp, goldfish and the western silvery minnow.
Note: Pet store fish (tropical fish) or crayfish cannot be used as bait fish

pretty sure you can goldfish as they are an exception to minnows. fall under the same category as smelts

Use goldfish and hope other fisherman are not around.

Could get nasty. Stick with the frozen smelt or shrimp. both inexpensive at super store
