TFNG, were you the fella that had a coyote sell and $1 was listed as the selling price in the catalogue? If so, I read on another forum that those two $1 lots sold for $100 each.
His post: "I'm at the auction. Trust me it's $100"......in reference to the $1 coyotes.

Cross reference the catalogue numbers with the catalogue and see what it says, Peter. It could be that your sales summary is wrong.

Very very new to this. I gather you're talking about auctioning off furs? Is there a website a guy can go to to check things out?

Think on the bright side, there is nothing we can do. I have been through this stuff for fifteen years, it goes up down sideways. It is what it is an I will be doing it next year. Not as a hobbie. The fur trade is a business that pays bills for the three months I do it, an I love doing it. Some people like thir jobs.

I averaged 114 usd on 32 coyotes. 156 high 74 low, the II grade coyotes killed my average but I'm very happy regardless.
Assuming 1.25 exchange that's 142.50 canadian.

Nafa determines the exchange rate at the end of the sale. Google says 1 usd = 1.26 Cdn today.

Your kidding right, when you graded them do you think you put poor coyotes on the sale or did you put everything on the sale. I grade mine to were I dont put a coyote on the sale that i wouldnt get 80$ Can for, thats what Im getting locally , so my grading worked , i only had two at 66 usd.

only had 8 on sale,if you take 3 damaged ones away I got 98.80 US on the other 5 Coy,they all looked good to me when I done them up,but hearing that a heavy hide will down grade you to damaged, think I had larger ones where that may have been the case,oh well, got 7 more to go on next auction.

true, but oil and russians dont have much to do with rats it was a korean and chinese item mainly and now korea aint buying raw rats they are buying finished ones from china so china dont have competition anymore thats why they went down so much, at least theyre selling though not like my awesome beavers

I didn't have any muskrat in this auction but it looks to me like rats have dropped even lower. I guess that I'm going to have to catch twice as many in order to achieve the overall bottom line that I want. Good thing that I enjoy trapping muskrat.

After reading this thread up to this point, all I can say is that a person has to really love getting out on the line. When all is said and done it sounds like you could earn more money working at Mcdonalds. lol

True you could.
I set soem rat traps last night. Saw prices this morning and decided to pull them. Caught 9 and a beaver. Will wait till ice is out and I may run a long line for a few days. The rats I caught today I would say barely paid for gas for diving out there and back yesterday and today but I sure had fun. It was better than getting fat sitting on my couch. Back to work in a couple days so I hope ice is out when I am back on days off.

My plan for muskrats is to work twice as hard for them this Spring. No more one check per day, even if it means having to break through ice in the morning. I'm taking a lunch and after skinning the rats from my first check, I'll do a second check before heading to the skinning shack. I'm gonna go after beaver as well. The pelts aren't worth a whole lot but with #1 castor at $5/ounce and the carcass at $20, it all adds up.
When prices aren't hot, trap a lot.....lol!
