Default Perch Dreams

https://www.instagram.com/thefishingdoctorsadventures/

Was down in Idaho. Fishing was really slow. Not sure where the fish dispersed but super sparse all over the lake. If you want to see some pics, see the link. Couldn't share the pics here from instagram apparently. If I upload some elsewhere I may be able to.

Biggest 15 1/4" 2 pounds 3 ounces. Got another 14.5" went 2 pounds 0 ounce. Quite a few 14.5 to 15" around 1 pound 14 to 15 ounce. So even though numbers were not in our favor still had decent size. We were only averaging 5-6 bigger perch per person per day. Nothing hitting the stationary Jaw Jackers at all. The Jaw Jacker Jiggers were getting a few though. Which compared to the rest of the guys we talked to wasn't bad. Many from North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri all were having worse luck than we and they traveled up to 28 hours to fish. One guy had fished 7 days straight and said hadn't broken 14 inches. Said he could get that size back in North Dakota and came all the way to catch something over 15"

So just a warning to all those looking to strike it Perch Rich down in Idaho, just be warned that it is hit and miss like a lot of lakes. This year was off due to a die off of perch minnows. They are feeding heavily on blood worms. Electronics are a must as most of the perch we were catching were coming in 6 to 8 feet off bottom. Fish are a bit thinner this year and not as many 2 pounders around as last year. Anyways maybe a couple weeks left down there. Depends on weather as always.

Best of luck to anyone heading down.

Pretty well similar to our results from late January. Challenging for sure!

Same results here. Real tough bite, lots of marks tho. At least everyone is our group caught a decent perch. Still not sure how some groups were coming back with 30-70 fish!! The drive and excessive amount of cheap tobacco made the trip great tho. Wish the tackle/liqour store in Riggins was open when we passed through.

I was confused. Looked just like the fishing at Sundance.

Very nice perch.

I wish we had lots of Mark's. If we could have marked more we would have caught a lot more but they had dispersed so thin. We were lucky to mark 15 to 20 fish a day. You need very light gear, small tungsten and hopefully detect the bites. Most of the lookers on the flasher are biting just difficult to tell when.

Nope after the first day we didnt even put out the stationary jawjackers which was sad cause I had rigged everything up and was ready to go like previous years. I would put in the jiggers for part of the days and they maybe caught about 5 between the three of them and several missed releases. Most of the fish were caught on our rod.

I did state this in my post please see the main post for details.

We still ended up taking 32 and released a bunch of 9 to 11 inchers.

Would have been nice if the set lines were working better.

Congrats on a super fishing adventure. Those are some big chubby tanks. Do you catch a lot or not many 10-12 in? You guys put in a lot of time and effort to catch those jumbos and it’s great to see the smiles! Now I feel lazy not wanting to drive 3 hrs north to try and catch some perch.

We dont catch many smaller fish actually. What you see in that picture is mostly what we caught. We did catch maybe 10 to 15 4" to 9" over the 3 days. Mostly just catching big fish. Yeah three hour drive is not very much. I'll be driving the 12 hours to Edmonton again to fish AB again before ice out. Good luck out there.

Beauty. Dream trip right there. What kind of rods are those in the pics with the perch? They look like nice rigs.

Thats an Alpha001 70cm ultralight rod. Has a flattened ultralight tip and stiff blank. I've broken most of the ultralight tips off the rods I've owned. These seem light yet durable. Quite similar to the 13 tackle rods but quite a bit cheaper.

Backcountry Tackle is the company, just a little online business. Not mine, just a random guy I found on instagram.

If you're interested check it out.

Looks like they're on sale right now.
