Default Kentucky man shoots down drone hovering over his backyard

What would you do? May not have been the lawful thing to do but you have to admire this guy for taking a stand.

So would shooting it. You would be opening a pandoras box of legal trouble for yourself.

Going to get interesting as these toys become more popular. First world problems.

A camera on a drone over a house?
What were they going with it, peeping Tom , casing the joint ?
Discharging a firearm in town limits maybe, I wouldn't 't charge him with anything else.
Careless use of a firearm ? He he hit the thing dead square!
No sympathy here fit the guy who owned the drone .

x2, clear invasion of the guys privacy, I'd call it trespassing, Americans are very sensitive about these things. I live in the country, so it would get similar treatment. One of those technology issues we need to deal with.

In that situation a net gun would come in handy, capture the thing bring it down and wait for whoever was operating it over my property.

The article says, "charged with criminal mischief and wanton endangerment" - so not directly a firearms related charge.

I wonder what the police response would have been if the homeowner had hit the drone with a baseball?

Bingo!
Only thing I would do different is I would have used a sling shot. They can take that away from me if they like.

Sorry, i love my guns and my ability to own them too much to risk losing them by doing something like that. Morons can ramble on about doing the same but I guarantee you if you did the same thing here you would be arrested, have your firearm(s) seized, your PAL would be frozen, you would be charged with as many firearms related offences that the cops could pin you with, you'd have to hire a lawyer, have court dates, could wind up with a record and could forfeit yours guns to the crown and could lose your PAL for good. Is it worth it? There are other options.

I wouldn't risk shooting one over my yard, but if I had one hovering over my deck, I'd certainly have an issue with it. I'm with Cat in not being able to feel any sympathy for the owner of the drone.

Actually at this time there are no other options, but thanks to this good man the public eye will be opened, we will get some laws to fight against these idiodic drone owners, maybe, sometimes it takes some extreme behavior to make changes or to get the ball rolling in the courts, this man is a hero and had made a great sacrifice for those who dont want drones flying around our space, you better show him some respect

Seriously?? If you think that shooting a drone out of the sky in a residential area is going to end well for you, you truly need your head examined.

Well if it's within in range of a shotgun on my land. Damn rights I'll be bringing that bird down. Not in town though. That's just asking for trouble. I would be using the sling shot. Here's an idea tie a rock to a net or even some rope just enough to tangle it's rotors up. Throw that at the pos
