Default Marie Lake

Headed up to do some fishing at Marie lake for a few days. Would like to try and get my 2 boys into a few walleye. Never fished Marie before, wondering if anybody has a couple suggestions for a guy?

Thanks in advance.

Head off the military campground area and hug the shore on that side, jig head with a long slender cut of sucker belly or minnow.....or just ask a few fellas hanging out there and they will steer you in the right direction.

Ohhh and be prepared as there are some huge pike there too

Also forgot to mention it can get very ruff out there quick so watch the forecast and keep an eye out too….we took a beating but got to the leeward shoreline and still salvaged the day but if I was on the ball could have been prevented…

Out front of the old Shelter bay campground on the North end wasn't bad. If you go West from there look for a big rock on the North shore. Fish there in 15ish feet. Jiggin with a minnow worked best.

I agree with bradvtown on finding the big rock.

There are actually three boat launches at the lake. Marie Lake Camping Society (MLCS) is commonly referred to as "the military campground", Shelter Bay, and the old provincial campground west side by the old mink farm. Of the three MLCS and Shelter Bay are the most easily accessed via maintained roads. The old provincial campground is for the adventurous who want the extra thrill of adventure via off-roading. It is not recommended for access unless via a quad or SxS and a boat more than a 14 ft tinner, canoe, or inflatable boat. The old access road has been severely degraded since its closure approximately 20 years ago if correct.
Access to Borque Lake is very similar to Marie Lake.

Default Boat Launches

Hi, I realize this is two years old, but I am unfamiliar with this lake - and I am trying to find the boat launches. So I have some ??

Shelter Bay is on the NE corner of the lake? (I'm looking at satellite view of Google maps)
Can the public use the MLCS boat launch? Can the general public camp there?
Where was the old provincial campground?
why did the province close it?

thanks, hopefully you are still on the forum!

Bevin B.

Best option to use is the MLCS one aka the military. They have 4 lots that regular folk can use, the remainder are for military etc from Cold Lake. I wanna say it was $10 to use? Well worth it if you've been to the Shelter Bay launch. When I say launch it's essentially a trail to the water. Similar to Bourque if you've been there.

MLCS launch is on the east side of the lake. Shelter Bay is the NE side, the mink farm one you're in for an adventure if you plan on getting anything in there. We frequent the trails and at times they're definitely challenging without a tin tub.
