wormy trout in chain lakes and dewitts pond

was at chain lakes last weekend got a nice 14 inch trout(very rare for chain), cut it open and notice the guts were full of worms, i have seen wormy fish in victoria but in 15 years of fishing chain lakes this is the first for me, pretty gross the little fellows were wiggling all over the cutting board, same thing at dewitts, i don't eat fish very often but this kind of turns me off, c&r it is. anyone else seen this in there trout.

I have never seen that (internal parasites in a rainbow) in Alberta either. I'd definitely report it.

Seen some little yellow worms on the fins of Bull Trout in Kootenay Lake - but not around here and never in the body cavity.

I've seen little white worms, looked like tape-worms, inside some rainbows I caught at Chain 15-20+ years ago. Never seen them since that time. Was too young and stupid to report it back then, but I was smart enough not to eat the fish. Have a sister-in-law who picked up some tapeworms from eating contaminated food in Thailand, kept her quite sick for some years before they figured out what was wrong with her.

More common than you think. I have seen cysts in the Rainbows from Little Bear, Bellis Beach, and Dillberry. Just cook them. No shashimi (sp??).

Cooking kills parasites in freshwater fish.

You shouldn't eat freshwater fish raw, or saltwater fish that is not properly prepared for that matter.

Even fresh salmon, which I have done on several occasions. It can make you very sick.

In reality parisites found in wild animals that can even inhabit humans are a vast minority. Of that minority there are none that I'm aware of that cant be killed by being cooked.

Hey Wildcat, I kept a few out of there about a month ago and none had parasites that I could see. Maybe it's the reason the fish stay small in there. Who knows, disturbing none the less, I will be sure to keep my eyes out for them next time.

From what I was told from a F&w was that they stay in the body cavity and don't go into the meat, and the cooking would kill them anyways. It's all good.
