Are you asking IF you can or can you? Likely 200 feet is a little deep for lakers but it's possible. And if you are asking if they will be ok to C&R, yes.

Sure, in 200 FOW, but at what depth and time of year? We've fished in 200 FOW but the actual lure pulled was at 60 and caught many that way during summer. Also, the great lakes are much different bodies of water than mountain lakes in AB.

Im guessing that your referring to this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XADHOd7jD8

I commented on that video and they said that they were between 200-300 feet. Ive caught lots of lakers in minnewanka in the middle of the lake at that depth. You can catch lakers up to 300 feet at least. Ive had great luck at spray in about 170 feet right off bottom

A laker was reported to be caught on Lake Superior at 1100 ft
It's just not an every day occurrence 200 is quite common
on a few of the Great Lakes

I'm sure others fishing cold lake will chime in as well, but ice fishing in 200+ feet of water for lakers is quite common.

What's the general consensus on lifting up a huge fish like that and holding it by the gill plate? As amazing at that fish was, I cringed a bit when I was watching that..!

I've always read to hold them horizontally try to support most of the weight with two hands.

*edit* After watching it again, he started to support it better at 4:00 or so.. but man, for the first bit I was waiting for the head to rip off (exaggerating a bit)!
