The hopper dropper rig is a dry fly is fished with a nymph on about 1 foot of line separating them just wondering of anyone has ever tried this and if so how is it?

Good rig.

Try a hopper, dropper hopper with a hopper dropper.

Slays the cuttie brown-bows on the middle fork.

Nope.

You just got to make sure you snap it hard and then splash it down.

Remember to skate it across the surface.

hahahhahahaha

but seriously, awesome rig for small to medium flowing waters. I like a stimmie or foam hopper and a tiny copper john or evil weevil. distance in between should be at least the depth you are fishing if not twice the depth in faster waters

X2 on the stimie or foam hopper, you need a very bouyant flie or it will tend to drag. I like a bead headed hares ear or weighted SJW for a dropper. The easiest to cast would probably be running the dropper right off the hook of the hopper, i find it tangles way less, however you do miss the odd fish and tend to foul hook them with the dropper.... Makes for a good fight anyway! Lol

That's what I'm worried about is tangling the two on a cast

Wider loops on the backcast will decrease the amount of tangles
