Jonny may of been born in th dark but it wasn’t last night. He sure as hell ain’t going to post on social media where he killed snows when there is next to nothing in Canada yet.

Hey Tabers Best, check out Flight Controls Facebook page we give updates on the migration into southern Alberta and they’re starting to arrive. We even have some pictures with a few dead birds. Your right about the snow though, Not huge numbers yet but starting, you just have to know where to look. Pm me and maybe I can give a general area to start your search.

There are still some around Southern Alberta, but last Friday’s storm and strong north wind sent most back south. Smart birds, I would head back south if I could fly.

Default Snows

If you look up a site called hunt the north, they update the migration weekly state by state right up into saskatchewan. The last report said they were just starting to show up in the southern part of North Dakota. I chase them a lot in the fall and spring. Itll be a couple weeks yet for sure unless it warms a lot. They will quite often not be sitting on the lakes when they come in to start, more in the floodwater in fields.

A lot of our Alberta snows come from the Western Artic Population, many of which winter from Southern Oregon down through California into Mexico,,, so we aren't totally dependent on conditions first improving in the Dakotas for snows to arrive here.

That said, there is a lot of winter between us (particularly for those of us here in central Alberta) and the bulk of the snow goose migration from whatever population they come from. There is still a pretty good chunk of snow in Idaho and Montana yet as well as southern Alberta with quite a bit more forecast for the weekend for these areas.

Check out this current snow cover map: http://www.eldoradocountyweather.com/snowdepth.html

And yes,,, when the birds do finally get here, they will likely be quickly hopscotching through using sheetwater in the very wet muddy fields making predicting the "X" difficult,,, and getting out into the field to set up a spread physically demanding if not impossible in some cases.

In these conditions to kill some snows, the best bests may be pass / jump shooting,,, or running traffic with water spreads in pastures.

Welcome to completely unpredictable world of spring snow goose hunting!!!

Well,,, sights like that always get the heart pumping,,, and with all that standing water in the field, getting out there and setting up a spread would certainly be a major cardio workout!!!!!

Biggest problem is the lakes are still frozen. Birds are roosting in the flooded fields. Not easy hunting with 6 inches of water, snow and mud.

Default They're here....

I saw around 10,000 birds in a few different flocks within a 5 mile radius here in Southern Saskatchewan yesterday.

Let's roll!

Fields/country roads are now closed in the Taber area due to flooding. I seen birds flying sky high tonight the adults will be in central alberta before the weekend. Lots of birds around Stirling. Had a great shoot. On the way back we seen tons south of Lethbridge.

If y'all want some flocks of snow geese to photograph; there are lots sitting on or even near Armitage's Lake right near Oyen. Some juvies and Ross mixed in. Hope that helps.

Fella posted a pic of a couple mixed in with honkers around GP today. Friend was out last weekend, no juvies, smart birds, ground is hard like rock to put dekes into. Stake punches are necessary. That was Leth area.
