Default Coyote gun

243 savage 11. Hornady 75 grain. Factory.
Bipod. 15 power fixed with turrets.
Spotted with range finder.
How far could you hit coyotes 90% of the time.

all depends on the amount of practice i get with it and the accuracy of the factory loads. i have coyote guns that i am confident that i will hit a standing broadside coyote at 250 yards. i find after the drop gets past the point where you can just hold on fur and expect a hit the hit percentage drops.

if it was my first time ever shooting the rifle with no prior practice i would say 150 yards.

I have the same gun with the same loads. I'd take the shot out to 300, maybe 350 if I was feeling good behind the trigger.

We have an 11 and my wife groups 1.2” at 285 yards. I’m not that good though. Lol

External conditions will affect the outcome 100% of the time (weather, temp, light, wind etc) but with that setup 300yatds on a coyote would be safe to say. Once you start dealing with holdover and drift at yardages past that your percentage will drop.

I know guys that would consistently kill at 700 yards on a standing dog with their own setups. I would feel 100% confident with a couple of my setups at 700 yards given time to set up and knowing the exact range and wind to dial in. It's just a matter of controlling yourself and touching off the shot. Don't get to revved up over a coyote so it's relatively easy to stay settled.

How about call the coyote in to 60 yards, and hit him 100 % of the time? Lol

Most of the coyotes won’t come in close with a call. We see then at 300 to 600 yards. We shoot most between 250 and 350. I’m hoping to go to 500 with this setup.

Limiting factor is probably the ammunition, specifically the lack of consistency box to box. but there's one way to find out, go shoot. The cartridge, rifle and optics are likely up to the job. Ammunition and trigger monkey will need evaluating

Thanks for the input everyone. Should be fun trying.

Thats weird... A buddy & I tried his bosses' FoxPro ShockWave (for the 1st time) last season.

Called 4 yotes in within 60 seconds, to about 100 yards, before I let the 1st shot off... Got my first double that day !

I handload, 58gr Vmax @ ~3900 FPS. Most dogs I take are between 300-500 meters away, no calling just spot-n-stalk.

if they wont come to a call then you are probably doing something wrong with your calling setup.
as for shooting to 500 i would get a scope with either a reticle that you can know and remember out to 5 or one with turrets and practice lots! when i was practiced up with my 22-250 i could hit a ranged coyote out to 400 most of the time.
