Canadian Navy - new ships
Holy smokes reading this article there certainly is a long list of failures on these ships. Flooding, anchors, failing, problems with drinking water systems, cranes that do not work, can not accomodate the helicopter --- list continues
Nice touch on the one year warranty with ships having to go back to Irving for repairs at more cost to the taxpayer

I'd like to see these ships loaded with Federal politicians and set sail.

Irving Shipbuilding noted in a statement to this newspaper that, “through the process of designing, constructing, commissioning, and operating new ships, stakeholders work together to identify and resolve a range of issues. This is a normal but essential element of shipbuilding.”
That might be true for minor issues, but ships aren't a new technology. Figuring out how to get an anchor onto a ship without flooding it isn't the same as integrating a mass sea launched drone swarm mechanism or stealth technology.

ship and aircraft bulding do seem to be a money pit. And at the moment they don't seem to know what to build from one minute to the next. Too much tech and different weapon loads to put on one ship for one ship or aircraft to handle these days, they don't know what to equip them with, change their minds and upgrade the upgrades with more upgrades or a complete change of layout. Army and Navy and Air Force both have a lot of new and old priorities to sort out,and find places to build and supply it, and then how much of what to actually acquire. What tech do you support altogether, drone, anti-drone, EW vs EW tech, satellite vs local, vendors all want money up front. Vicious circle to say the least.

Irving is always a winner in these things for some reason, but then I guess you can't build ships in Alberta.

Not sure why the gov insists on having a company like the Irvings who didnt even have the facilities to build the ships when they bid on it be the source and custom design something that many other countries build on the regular for cheaper and far more functional. its time the procurement accepts that the CAF isn't big enough to get every single item custom built and custom designed in house. Imagine the savings by buying the things that make sense off the shelf from other countries known for their armaments and shipbuilding

They are just competing for top spot against the leaky submarines that the last Liberal party bought from Britain back in the day. Liberals have a hard time doing things right especially when it comes to the military.

Yeah I don't think we will be escorting convoys across north Atlantic.
Look at Russian Navy and Ukraine. Fascinating the technology and how crazy expensive.
Canada better get a long with everyone haha

Canadian defense policy has always been, the Americans will save our skin, that's fast becoming a thing of the past.

Our government is more worried about Ukraine and pride parades/flags. Our military and vets were asking for more than the government could give.

But yet you should see how the dog catcher or I guess you call him the by laws officer is armed and outfitted. But I guess police actually make money from fines so I guess that's different.

If Canada was serious about its military hardware, it would quit with the lousy "made in Canada" part of the procurement process. Canadians can't build major miltary hardware. Fact. Irving is just a corrupt, incompetent money sponge.
Buy the ships/vehicles/tanks etc from the US or other countries that actually know what they're doing. Then outfit them with whatever antiquated tech and weapons Canada has, or better yet develop/buy the latest and greatest.
The politics of military procurement need to end as well. The Australian model is a good one to look at. Military spending is a line item, not a political issue. On a strictly hardware to hardware match up, the Aussies kick our ass 6 days a week and twice on Sunday with a very comparable budget.
I feel bad for our troops. Most of our soldiers are excellent, and deserve the best. This nation fails them on a daily basis. I understand why recruitment is a problem. Who the hell would want to serve any more under these conditions?
