Default A few taxidermy questions...

Just a few questions...
  1. What does a person look for in a taxidermist's work when deciding who to use?
  2. What kind of prices should I expect to pay on average for a deer mount, elk/moose mount? How much for a bear skin / ft?
  3. Is there an association for taxidermists in Alberta and if so what's their website address.
  4. Is there a licensing system in place?
  5. If you're classified as an amateur (ie. hobbyist) taxidermist can you do work for others?
  6. What prep work should I do before I show up at the taxidermists door?

I'm sure there's more questions I can ask, just can't think of any more right now.

1. Face detail - eyes (not bug eyed), mouth, and nose. I also like to see balanced ears.

2. Average prices around Red Deer are from 700-900 depending on who you go to. Some are less, some are ridiculously more. Where are you located, check your local Sporting goods store and ask for a business card for some taxidermists.

The rest: No clue what to tell you.

i took a badger and four melanistic gophers for lifesize mounts to a guy near millet in 2001 and they are not done yet.
I paid for them already....and supplied the oak bases etc, etc.
tick tock tick tock tick tock
how long should these things take really....

first off ask for referances - look at the animals in his studio do they look life like - chech to see if they belong to the BBB and if they do phone and see if they had any complants - go to two or three different shops and look at there animals and pick the one you feel most comfortable with his work.
