Default Human Rights Commission

Not really. But an article by Lorne Gunter in the Edmonton Journal on abuses that have been commited by the Human Rights commission and why it should be abolished.

http://www.canada.com/edmontonjourna...d-cc743bbd0994

Sounds like another layer of government that needs to be eliminated.

Another "good idea" gone wrong.

Just hope you stay on the good side of it. Watch what you say because Big Brother is watching you (oh how far we've come).

Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn are at the centre of this chit storm. We are used to seeing liberal political correctness carry the day...but alot of people are very angry about this. Hell, I am livid over it.

The tide is turning though, and hopefully we can avoid the stupidity that Europe did.

The Alberta Human Rights Commission's effort to go after Ezra Levant of the now defunked Western Standard is another case in point. I don't necessarily agree with alot of the stuff that was written in the publication nor its predecessors such as the Alberta Report but I defend their right to say it. As long as it is not purposefully hateful and is part of a logical and respectful debate, it needs to have a forum.

Levant was before the commission because of his opinions about the public display of the controversial muslim cartoons that were first published in Denmark. He chose to publish them in an effort to afford the opportunity for people to make up their own minds about the controversy. It may be that some ignorant slobs will make fun of Islam because of the cartoons but that is a freedom in our country.

Responsible free speech is a democratic right.

IN general,do we really need to have commissions with this much power to do their will? NOOOOOOO! We have the courts to determine examples of hate mongering and discrimination.

It's a cliche, I know but........"I may not agree with you but I'll fight for your right to say it."

While I also didn't always agree with the Alberta Report and Western Standard's viewpoints, I appreciated them covering subjects and perspectives that were avoided by mainstream media.

Apparently, according to various 'Human Rights' commissions, bringing all perspectives to the table is verbotten.
